Yes his guitar was amazing but then again it always is. As for Cora, I don't think she was any better, I've been impressed with her for a long time.

Priceless gig! Never to be seen again, but I live in hope. The guitar playing was the best of the tour and I thought more of Cora after that gig if I'm honest. She was "dead on it".

Well the 18th of August was my first ever aftershow (been waiting 20 years for it) and with the red suit, feathery hat, toilet seat blues and seventies style funk I didn't think it could get much better. I wasn't expecting as much on 28th. I was wrong. I was sober coz I had to drive back to Sheffield that night so it isn't the drink talking when I say it was the most jaw-dropping gig I have ever seen - the closest thing to drugs I have ever experienced without taking a thing. Liquid guitar, nods and winks to members of the crowd, flicking his plectrums at people and disappearing off into 'the zone' during some solos. Simply staggering.

Prince has been improving as a guitarist all the way through his career. In my opinion he matured (like most of us do) during his thirties. From the Nude Tour onwards his solos slipped into another gear. More recently he has been getting to grips with tremlo arm stuff which used to piss me off coz he overdid it. Now he's got it sussed and the 28th pretty much proved it. I'll be digging for that bootleg if he doesn't release in himself (please Mr Nelson, please!!)

And Cora is pretty hot (on drums). love

*Guitar playing, I'd like to say Prince has approved throughout his career, but when looking at old ('81) footage his playing has always been effortlessly mindblowing. Still, I'd say it has improved in versatility and virtuosity.
*Drumming. I hadn't heard Cora before. During the main show (28th) I thought she missed beats. At the aftershow she proved she really could play the drums, esp. during her little solo (when the guitar died), nothing weird, just spot on. I was really pleasantly surprised.

I was at the aftershow on the 28th...Unbelievable stuff…to add a bit of context so that my statement doesn’t sound over the top…I was never a huge Prince fan growing up…it was just part of the stuff that was on in the house…my brother listened mainly…and I picked things up via MTV in 91-92 so I was a bit of a latecomer…in the last few years I have picked up most of his work/ side projects.…

I have played guitar for about 20 years in all kinds of styles, bands etc. and it takes quite a bit for me to make statements that mention names like Hendrix in them by way of making comparison to things I have seen live....but this was like nothing I have ever seen before….even beyond Hendrix….The control, use of tone, sheer enthusiasm and imagination he applied to the instrument was like nothing I have ever experienced...and I honestly don't think I will see again in my life...its sounds over the top, especially for those that weren't at the gig...or any of the other aftershows for that matter...its one of those insular things that its difficult to convey to people that weren’t there…and after trying to tell people…I now realise that its my little experience…and I can only really share it with others that were there.... I am not a religious person or believer of anything 'up there' but watching him play really reignited my enthusiasm for all things-music and was probably as near to a religious experience that I have had in my life... or what I would imagine is one for those that claim to have had one....he just took the thing, made it his completely his own and then sold it back to us with that look that he that does that says ..'you know, that I know that I am that good…and this is only that tip of what I can do!'…he was effortless...a shaky word as it suggests he might have been a bit lazy…but absolutely not…even at 2.30 in the morning… he never seems to take his ability for granted...you could see him still, after all these years of playing music figuring things out and learning from himself....playing with different licks and sounds, returning to them later in songs when he had figured how to mix things together to improve the riff/ build on the theme…The gig made this summer for me…and he is quite simply the most talented and natural guitar player that I have ever seen or heard… I take my hat off and salute him for making such a statement like the 21 nights and I will remember the night for the rest of my days! It’s good to know that there are others out there that feel the same the way!

Yanio, I loved reading that. I have no idea about playing the guitar but like you say he makes it look so effortless. I can't describe any of the technicalities in the way you do and am limited to two words when trying to describe it to friends. Fucking awesome! biggrin

Hearlon

This is my first post...I was lucky enough for that night to be my only aftershow. What an amazing experience. Have to second all the praise for Prince's guitar playing that night, utterly entrancing and amazing. Even more amazing to hear him do it in a three piece arrangement. It may well be the only aftershow I ever get to see but if it is, I'll still be happy. It was hands down the best gig I've ever seen. Cora as a drummer blew me away as well...I'm a die hard Michael B fan but she came as close to being the perfect drummer as he is (in my opinion).

Must must must try to find a bootleg so I can hear it again. Just loved his superrockyfunky version of All Shook Up and Josh's funky hat. As a fellow bass player, I can appreciate a funky hat!

After my wedding, it was best night of my life.

My girlfriend did come with me and she's sick of me talking about it too. lol

After that show I actually said to her that I had no need to go and see Prince again. For me, I had just lived my dream Prince gig. Of course I did go again and I would go to any other shows he does here too. They just won't be the same.

You know, I felt exactly the same. I almost felt spoilt, like I'd gotten all my Christmas presents, even the ridiculous ones I'd just secretly and selfishly wished for, a whole week early.

Funny, I read your (englishgent) post on that first thread about the 28th: "On the way out I said to the missus that I don't need to go and see Prince again. Over the years I've now seen everything I could have hoped for and tonight was the pinacle of it all."

I felt exactly the same after the show and on the plane home: 'This was the best, this was what I was longing for, now I'm full, I don't need anything else'. I haven't stopped thinking about the show since, am fanatically searching the org for the a mention of 'the 28th' to try and relive the moment. In actuality, I'm even more of an addict and just trying to fool myself...

I know everyone raves about the last night aftershow and naturally so - it's to be expected.

But for me, the 28th was a winning lottery ticket. Stripped down sound, but maybe 100-fold the energy!

Undertaker-style concert and Prince probably the most 'human' I'd seen him.
He appeared to be enjoying himself while at the same time, being very humble too.

Probably the most professional I think I've ever seen him.
