Tues 28/8 The best for ages!

OK Just got back and can't remember the whole set list but Prince for once minimized the teasing and just delivered cold hard hits!

Some of the list included really satisfying versions of (not in order):

Lets go crazy
1999
Cream
7
SOTT
Take me with u
Controversy
When Doves Cry (yes really!)
Kiss
The Beautiful Ones
Rasberry Beret
Musicology
Black Sweat
Little Red Corvette
Diamond and Pearls
Nothing compares 2 u
Alphabet Street

There were a few more and the Maceo wonderful world thing but of note there was nothing off Planet Earth.

I took my 16 yr old son to his first Prince gig today and he was blown away! I want this gig on DVD please!! smile

The aftershow may well go down as the stuff of legend.

Just P on guitar, Cora on drums and Josh on bass.

Tracks included were Calhoun Square, All Shook Up (Elvis), Johnny B Goode, When Will We B Paid (played over tune of John Mayer's Waiting On The World To Change), I Like It There, Elephants & Flowers.

Amazing! A singularly great showcase of his talents as a guitarist.

Let it be said now before the fakers get in on the act though... His soloing wasn't as special as the night required. A bit prolonged and unfocussed.

I was praying he'd kick in to Just My Imagination though! It had more than a passing familiarity with the feel of Small Club.

Really?? I thought it (the main show) was decidedly average last night - fine - but average. He's done much better this tour and will do much better.

Thought last night ROCKED!!!! Quite different to when we saw him on the 18th. LOVED the video footage they played before P came onto the stage. Last time P came on in a box following the band, which was cool also. The atmosphere and everything was just better excited

I'm sitting here typing with a very croaky throat from shouting at last night's show. From the very start I knew it was going to be a corker!

Starting with Let's Go Crazy was perfect. The Beautiful Ones sounded amazing. I was yelling so much for him to play more of SOTT.

All I can say is Prince - you f*cking ROCK!

It was the most unbelievable show. I couldn't believe it when he played SOTT. At one point I was sure I heard the intro to Nasty Girl. And Controversy last night was amazing.

But has already been said, it was The Beautiful Ones that stole the show; full version and his vocals were heartbreaking - the crowd just roared at the, "do you want him, or do you want me," just unforgetable.

It's all a matter of personal tate of course - but of all the 60 or so shows I have seen him give this for me was up in the top 5 for pure satisfaction - to get When Dowes Cry/SOTT/1999/Contoversy/The Beautiful ones in one set alone is worth 31 quid let alone the rest of the stuff and to be honest it was one of the best performances of Purple Rain I have ever seen! I repeat this has to be on a DVD! and can they throw in the DVD of the Parade tour as well please!! lol

Top five, my ass! It was a good performance from Prince but I wasn't too impressed with the audience participation, which is half the fun. For me, 7th August is still the best one from this tour. No stupid sampler rubbish to please the masses on that night. If I want to listen to SOTT and WDC sampled use your stereo at home. Anyway, he could have come out a done a poo on stage last night and I would have been happy coz the aftershow was something else.

I enjoyed the 7th show more but I did have better seats. Last night I was in the Gods. The set was very hits heavy. Slipping in 1999 after Lets Go Crazy Intro was very cool. Listening to him sample his hits on the keyboard was fun, and yes there was the intro to Nasty Girl.

ok consider your ass top fived then! lol

Prince does big venues to attract the masses so they want 'hits'. I dont care if he did use samples - I felt the show was exactly what was required for the tour. The acid test was my son who went to his first Prince show and it lived up to his expectations - and belive me it takes a lot to impress a 16 yr old from the my space generation!

I have been to so many of his shows where yeah he used real musicians etc but you know i was glad he minimised the boring jazz solos and the not so famous tracks and went for the jugular - so yes like you probably do, I consider myself a hardcore fan and I was well happy with it.

OK, I'll assume that both of you were in attendance... Although I feel this gig will go the same way as Springsteen's 78 Hammersmith Apollo gig - a capacity of 3,000 at the venue and yet 100,000 claim to have been there!!!

I'm a huge fan and I'd listen to the man snore and say it was genius. My point was that the extended soloing was more noodling than "Just My Imagination" or "Joy In Repetition" quality. I'm entitled to remark on that.

I'm also somewhat justified in that the lay-people/non-fans there were looking bored through some of the guitar solos.

It was a privilege to experience. No question. HOWEVER, I wanted my slight criticism on the record before the people who were NEVER there and heard it through a crappy bootleg start waxing lyrical that they were there, and it was the greatest show ever!

I have to say I felt absolutely privileged to have been at this show. I am only able to make it to one show unfortunately and truly felt blessed with the playlist.

I've been reading this section every day for reviews and intrigued to see the setlists being chopped and changed around. I was also over the moon that I'd gotten a lower tier seat and couldn't believe how close to the stage I was.

Anyways - I couldn't believe my ears when Prince went into 'The Beautiful ones' - it felt like I was the only person on my row who knew it mind u. I saw a lot of people looking very bored during 'Beautiful ones' and indeed during the guitar solos and worse still, I heard someone say 'who's Maceo Parker?' confused I cringed.

Nevertheless, what a show. I only wish he had come on earlier. I think I must be getting very old but the support act just went straight over my head. Come to think of it, did they even introduce themselves? They were definitely having sound problems - I was in block 113 and I couldn't hear a word they said.
Did anyone catch what they were called?

We were in Block 115 lower tier which I thought were really good seats even seeing Prince's back for most of the show didn't spoil it at all. Yeah the boy really enjoyed it - different from the stuff he is into normally but he was impressed by a true legend! biggrin Where were you sitting?
