No Prince at Aftershow on Aug 25th

But the NPG was ripping it up! Plenty of time for all the horns to get in solos - several each over several songs - as well as the two boys on the keyboards. They were all having so much fun - laughing and smiling and playing awesome stuff. I saw quite a bit of the horns during the main show tonight (being at the back, in front of the stage) and although they were sharp and played faultlessly, they looked a little - dare I say it?, bored. They were not dancing/moving - just "standing there", playing. What a contrast to the Aftershow tonight, they were loving it with heart and soul, dancing, having a laugh and trying to "out-solo" each other.

There was a point were they repeatedly played two bars and then stopped in mid-air for one bar - everyone kept dead still whatever pose they were left in on the last beat. For this Martha and Shelby came across the stage - just going once from left to right - to join in. It was so much fun to watch. Later, the girls came out and had some show-case songs themselves. Both are such awesome (ok, I saw awesome too much), amazing singers. The amount of energy alone that they have - specially Shelby, I must say. I'm becoming a huge fan of hers and was watching her during the main show - she gave everything, sang her heart out, animated the crowd... Yet, here she was again, jumping all across the stage, singing, screaming, clapping, dancing.
For Love is a Losing Game she got this a guy up on stage to sit down on a chair and sing the song to. He clearly felt a bit awkward/exposed at first but did really well and was soon lapping it up. Got up and danced with her and it all ended with Shelby sitting on his knee, hugging him!

The crowd at the Indigo was brilliant tonight, didn't see anybody so drunk tha they were being a twat, people were just "merry". Dancing, clapping and singing even b4 the show started to the music the DJ put on and when show ended at 2.30 many people stayed to shake their stuff on the dance floor! Good for them! I left as I thought I had had about as much fun a girl can have on her own with her clothes on.

There was this one guy, he looked way over 60 (sorry if u r not!), he was so into it, grooving away, feeling the music, it was just great to see! Yay you, whoever you were, I hope I'll still be that funky when I'm ur age!

I go the Aftershows to have a good time. Of course if Prince shows it is faaaantastic and a great time guaranteed. But if a great band plays and I get to dance, I'm happy too. Usually feel way too energised after the main show to go home. So I go to hear some more good music, dance some more, and warm down. We can’t expect him to play every night - if he was guaranteed to play the tickets would be way more expensive and also sold out. Who wouldn't want the experience of a small club, getting *this* close if it was guaranteed?!? If we expect it we only feel disappointed and bitter if it doesn’t happen. What use is that? £25 is not bad to hear a great band like NPG or Beverly Knight play, you'd pay that for any other gig - or more! If Prince does play then what we get for our money is totally priceless!

Out of interest, if you're so anti-Prince, what in God's name are you doing on a Prince forum?

I'm glad you sold your ticket last night. One less twat to worry about!

A Maceo Parker gig is fine by me. His Jazz Cafe gigs have always been a riot.

Prince aftershows are like a box of chocolates. Don't you like chocolates?

I don't get why people are being so apologetic for Prince on this tour ??? I agree with Wolfy, i've been in a big Prince fan since the early 80's and have been attending his European tours since 86, so what if his aftershows are sold out? he should have just sold 5 and played at them all sold out, he didn't have to sell 20 odd and fleece the fans on no show nights.

Prince comes off stage at 22:30'ish and knows there's 2,500 fans at the Indigo waiting for him, but he decides not to bother, what does that say about his thoughts for his fans who spend £25 and wait all night for him ? and why can't he play everynight he puts an aftershow on, all he has to do is come on stage for 30 mins, join the NPG, jam abit on guitar, sit and play keyboards if he's that tired, i'm sure the bar could rustle up some horlicks for him so he can leave at 1:30am to get tucked up wink

I'd be happy if he did this and I think most fans at the Indigo would, we don't expect a 2 hour aftershow gig, just something a little bit special after spending £25, queuing 2 hours and waiting a further 2 hours inside, is a 30 min jam session where he doesn't have to sing so much too ask ???

3121 makes me laugh .....

3121 Spy Report: Saturday, Aug 11
A circular curtain lowers from the ceiling, center stage. The band plays the opening notes of Purple Rain. The curtain goes up, and there’s Prince, decked out in purple and orange, hidden amidst wafts of smoke. “Eye am here London… where r u?”

Was just on 3121.com and saw this bullsh*t, all I can say is 'I was at the aftershow Prince, where r u?'

i dont mean to be an asshole, but the point you make is exactly what made the saturday show not so impressive as the friday nite one

do we really want Prince doing 30 mins, computerised sets, he totally bored out of his mind

i dont think so, and anyway, very few hardcore fans are at the aftershows, 90% are simply curious

anyway, i have made my brother addicted to Prince,

wolf.ie, cool your boots, you are right to be pissed, i would be too, if i had laid out the cash , but i didnt, was a fluke that my brother got amazing vip tickets, but we were not able to get rid of the tickets we had, plus friends of him had spare tickets as well

the aftershow was a fluke as well, like gambling, the cards came up trumps
