FIRST NIGHT Wow - still not come down.
I have seen 35 live shows and last night was head and shoulders above the rest. I just cannot believe how good he was ! the flow of the show was perfect , funky , rocky , slow jams beautiful anmd he looks as good as ever. Won`t put a set list list , Squirrel Meat`s is spot on. First the queueing/seat fiasco. I got to the venue at about 2.45 , and was staggered at how many were there - I thought when we eventually got in it would be a free for all. The fact that we got numbered tickets was OK and I had pretty good ones , but I didn`t sit there - big deal , the view and the sound would be good from anywhere in that first 15 rows. This made the soundcheck a bit of an anticlimax - Shame. That said it was a blinding "Days of Wild". The concert itself... Maceo walking down the aisle (and pausing for a second or two by me) , the cheer when Prince came on...the sound so crisp and clear ... the effortless funk of 1+1+1 and the work ... Whole lotta love , psychedelic backdrop , incredible guitar ... the musicianship of the band...the crowds reaction ... Take me with You & Raspbery Beret unexpected ... I wanna be your Lover , solo and funky on a piano...his humour during the solo part ... and the funk...just when I thought he could not be funkier he dropped All the critics , after 2 and a half hours of highs I think this one took me to heaven , it was so simple and so damn funky ... the atmosphere ... the grins on peoples faces (I love my house music and the whole clubbing scene , but these smiles were genuine not the chemically induced type!)...his voice on Beautiful Ones ...Rhonda`s bass playing...the fact that 2 hours passed so quickly...totally lost in music... his guitar playing... .. I cannot wait for Monday and Tuesday at Manchester. Recently my enthusiasm has waned a little , nothing to do with Prince , more some of the other music I listen to , I have even started to think he is no longer relevant - NO WAY ; he is unique , he is head and shoulders above his nearest contemporary , he had us in the palm of his hand (as always) , when he is this good you don`t need anyone else. Welcome Back Prince ***IF YOU TELL ME TO WALK A STRAIGHT LINE***

Well, I clocked the show at 2 hours 45 minutes of sheer delight! (Actually, there were a number of "chemically induced" people there - just not like some of the lurking, nutter freaks you find in the corners of London clubs!!) Everyone there had a marvellous time - it was a fantastic atmosphere!! I cannot stress enough just how good Prince was last night - he put beyond all doubt that he is still "The Man" - there is nobody to touch him... ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

was there any merchandise on sale ? they were setting it up as we went into the soundcheck (after all the confusion , most people were unwilling to leave their seats - me included) there were certainly lots of posters and some good Tshirts (although nothing that isn`t on the website as far as I could see) Not sure if there were any CD`s , I particularly want Days of Wild - I figured I`ll buy at Manchester. I think the tourbook was £15 which struck me as a bit steep , but I know I will buy one ! ***IF YOU TELL ME TO WALK A STRAIGHT LINE***

Yeah did you see that paralatic bird that was holding onto the stage for dear life whilst 4 security guys tried to remove her. She damn near took Takomi and a guitars neck off. She would have been in for a pasting then I reckon. Imagine going to a prince show that pissed. The next day everyone is like "So how was the show" and you (waking up next to someone you dont even know can only say "Show? What Show?" Duh. . | |
