Just back from the O2..!

Amazing night, ears are ringing, feat are sore..but wow. What a night.

Had VIP tix, Block D1 row G. Great view. The pre-concert affair wasn't a party, but a nice chilled out thing. Loads of food going around. Kept having to turn stuff away there was so much, so no worries. You even get a nice little wrist band with your drinks tokens on... And it feels good, going up up up the escalator, passing through severeal stages of security, all the O2 staff being very polite...

Apparently at Prince's request, the curtains were drawn, so you couldn't see the stage/sound check, although you could hear Mya warming up.

Then, to the seats. O2 staff were universally great.

Mya finishes her set. The lights finally go down, and Prince starts with 1999, then what, can't remember. Guitar was pretty early, Take me with you, then going back into the guitar ending of Let's Go Crazy.... Can't remember the sequence of the songs, but did Come Together as a big sing along at some point. Musicology, Cream, If I was your girlfriend, Raspberry Beret, Seven (big sing-along), Kiss..

Man, I swear to god he pointed at my girlfriend and said 'You lady, come and dance with me', at which point women appeared from all sides and stormed the frigging stage! I was gripping my girlfriend's hand (hoping to get on stage by assocaition), but we didn't get past security. We (she) was called and we (she) was ROBBED!!! mad

Anyway, show continued, great piano medley - Sign o the Times - awesome, I wanna be your lover, too many to mention. Prince was working the crowd, the crowd was going crazy, a really good atmosphere. Even people high high up were getting down. Really got the feeling Prince enjoyed himself, the crowd enjoyed themself, and he loves playing with you, lots of teases and, no matter how big a fan you are, you just think - god, he's got so much talent, so many songs, so much charisma...

I really thought he'd come out for a second encore, but Let's Go Crazy, Controversy made a brilliant encore anyway.

Massive queues for the O2 when we were leaving, a lot of people left the main concert early, I assume to join the queue.. Only complaint would be that so many people sat on their arses waiting for an encore, but didn't even clap, shout, or even stand up to help it happen! WHY NOT?!

confused

Oh, I thought he spent quite a lot of time round the back as well, so if you're byu the drummer's arse, I don't think you need to worry so much. Prince will still rock it for you.

Anyway, going to have sweet dreams and work on getting on stage on the 1st Sept!

wink

I just got back too, I quite agree with everything you said, it was a pretty awesome show - but I felt the crowd was a little lacklustre. We seemed to be the only people in our area that were dancing!

I thought the show was awesome! The keyboard set was even better than last Sat cause he actually sang more... he really milked it! By some miracle, after trying for tix all day I got three tix in the front row of A2 at the very last minute from TM. The guards gave me guff cause of my e-mail tix - but eventually it was sorted and we PROVED we were supposed to be there. (O2 Customer service had to intervene!) There sure is a lot of chaos going on with the seats on the floor (the guards don't seem to know which section is which half the time...)

I recommend to anyone who can/wants to go again - be viligant and keep hitting that refresh button on TM - it's worth it!

Take care, y'all!

I just came back too, i couldn’t believe Prince was in the same room as me, it was kinda emotional. i was in block 115 so not such a great view but i still enjoyed the show.

i couldn't believe it when he sang "1999", i thought he vowed never to sing it after the millennium.

I remember i was the only one singing "people call me rude, I wish we all were nude...." part of controversy, everyone was looking at me. lol.

That's so funny! Where were you?! Thanks for the sympathy, and for making us realise that it wasn't all a dream. If we dwell on it, we get a bit gutted. She's consoled by the fact that Prince wanted to dance with her, and we're back on the 1st - Front Row C2 - bring it on! lol

We saw Julia Stiles too, had no idea it was her - she could've dressed up a bit!

Yeah, we didn't stop dancing and jumping and going crazy - some people that had been planted to their seats in Row F left after half an hour. What a waste, but better to have fewer people going for it than a load of dullards! We got a few strange looks from the people around us, but there were two great dutch guys behind us who were as crazy as we were, which is great. biggrin

Hey mancabby, respect. We were shrieking it too, and the people in front of us just didnt get it..! Isn't it weird to have him only a few metres in front of you.

And, also that you want him to know that you're not like the other people in the room, but that you really respect him, and if only Prince knew, then he might hang out with you for a while. Who knows, you could even bowling together. God, now I am sounding weird, but it can't just be me that feels that way! lol

I was sat in Bk 112 row M and myself and people all around me were doing some serious funking,it was an excellent show.I didn't stop Dancing all night

The Aftershow was pretty decent as well, although Prince didnt show up , The Rest of the band were all there- Maceo, Morris, Mike ,Renato,Josh,CC,Shelby,Lee and Greg and Did a set for just over an hour climaxing in Shelby singing an excellent cover of 'Crazy'-Gnarls Barkley.

An Amazing night

The piano medley was great. Well, more of an electric keyboard medley, 'cos the man did some Piano numbers, and hit a key and triggered off the drum & bass loop for Sign 'o' the Times - everybody went WILD. That drum pattern is so PHAT! cool Then a bit more piano tinkling, and he hit another key to trigger off the Alphabet Street loop... razz I think he finished with Raspberry Beret, which the whole band joined in on and Prince went back to stage centre.

'Go - go - go, go go go, go freaking craaazy.' wink

Awww...no he definatley said "you need to come dance with me" and he looked at her for ages... eek ..thats like every girls dream....i think the girls that did get up there had already been picked by his back up singers...BOOOOO!!
God i hope she manages to get picked next time you go...would be amazing...let me know!

I was in the 2nd row with my sis (i think it was to the right of you)...i had really long curly hair and a bright pink cardi....i was moving around for the whole set due to the 2 infront of me who weren't the slightest bit bothered they were at a Prince concert-aswell as dancing loads!

I think there were 2 guys infront of you (behind us) that were absolutley "avin it" they were Prince mad...really screamed for him when he went off...lots more fun than most sad

Yep I was in a similar situation over in block 103, lol, I nearly wet myself when he played it! I knew he had played it every night so far, but thought knowing my luck he wouldnt play it when I was there. I got the feeling from the reaction of the crowd around me that they didnt know the song. The crowd were I was were pretty into it, but didnt know alot of the songs. I was in row W and there were 3 girls in front of me in row U maybe and they were having a ball - thought they might be org members, lol, coz they were loving it!

I loved every second of the show - I couldnt believe how fast it all went! I was glad when then crowd finally got into it, coz i thought they were generally a bit lazy at the start, barely moving in their seats. I couldnt believe the mass exit during the Maceo instrumental in the middle - I had read about it here, but didnt realise so many used it as a piss/beer break. I couldnt bear leaving for a second in case I missed something!

I really loved the piano bit too, as he teased us with his snipbits of hits!!! I just had the best night I have had in ages and cant wait for the 21st, wooohooooo!!!!!

I was jumping about in my seat to Controversy too! This is the forth time I've seen him overall but this was the best! This was a cracking show and the crowd were well getting into it where we stood, block H.

Great show, the man's a god!
