150 Songs In London.....

There are a lot of people complaining that Prince isn't changing the set-list up enough. Well, I've been happy with what I've heard at my 2 shows and the lists from the other shows seep pretty good too.

Prince DIDN'T say he was going to play 150 songs on this tour. He only said they had rehearsed 150 songs. Big differenct.

As it stands though, he's played 6 nights and already 60 different songs have been heard.....so what's the problem??

I personally don't need to hear every verse of Alphabet Street. The fact that he did a couple of verses on the 7th August made my night.

The fact that he played Wanna Be Your Lover made my WEEK!! So, I could only make 2 nights. I'm never going to get to hear EVERY song he plays on the 21 nights.....so I'll just be thankful for what I did hear.

If I want to hear EVERY song from an entire tour, I'll go and see Michael Jackson one night. Same shit, every night!

I actually went to 2 Jacko gigs in the 90's and enjoyed them, but there is a world of difference between a Prince and a Michael Jackson tour.

Prince: Different set every night.

Jackson: Same set, same order....every night for 1 year.

I'm not saying one is right and the other wrong, because at the end of the day, how many people are going to go to multiple shows of a world tour??

Co-sign. I totally agree. What pisses me off is the people who haven't even been to a single concert yet and they're moaning about the setlists - for god's sake STOP BLOODY MOANING!!!!!

I've greatly enjoyed the two shows I have been to and also been pleased to see that the other nights have had different set lists too. Of course there was always going to be many similar nights. With 150 songs, we'd only get 7 and a bit per concert to have a completely different set list each night.

In any case, just looking at pure lists doesn't tell the whole story. For example, both nights I went to he played Somewhere Here On Earth. Yet one night it was done with the band and the next it was just him and a keyboard. The energy, delivery and performance of songs has varied too.

I've got 4 more main shows over the coming weeks and am looking forward to them with great anticipation. I for one am appreciating how liucky I am to have Prince performing so many shows, so close to where I live. It's going to be strange when it's all over.
RIP sad

Michael Jackson is the exception here, not the rule. Most artists vary the shows, and come in with far more rehearsed than they play. Albeit not 150 songs. But then Prince has the biggest songbook in history (I think). Although to say he's played 60 already is a slight stretch. I haven't counted em, but are we really going to credit him with Crazy (which he doesn't personally do) or Condition of the Heart? Are you counting Freaks On This Side? Please tell me you're not.

Also, why announce he has 150 rehearsed unless he's hoping for plenty repeat business from the loyal? And does this 150 figure ignore much of the highlights like the solo guitar set (felt identical to me to the Musicology tour) or solo piano set (see One Night Alone live... he's had this section down cold since 2002)? No rehearsals required. He could play these in his sleep, and needs no band input.

Anyway, by your calculations we should expect six new songs a night for the remainder. I'd definitely settle for that, although wouldn't expect it.

And I think his set variations are just fine. The medleys remain the only downside to the shows so far. They don't ruin it - hardly - but I just don't feel like I've properly heard some of the songs that many are happy to include in set lists.

I agree, but it would be nice to brag about wouldn't it? thumbs up!
Just in case he was bluffing: hmmm
There's only one way to prove that he did rehearse 150 songs and that is to play them all.
headbang headbang headbang
I say: Prince, go for it.

i'm wondering where u'r accounting is based upon. because according 2 what people have said..purple rain has been played every night. so r u counting that as part of the 60 songs? in fact each night, the songs have been played every night but just in a different order. one nite no songs were played from 3121 but then returned on the next night. just curious on these 60 that u account 4 as different songs.
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

To be honest, I didn't count them myself. Another Orger in another thread did, but in fairness, he had Funky London chant, Freaks on this side and the sample set (I didn't hear this personally so I can't say if they are worthy of a mention or not).

For arguments sake, lets say he's performed 50. That isn't counting Purple Rain 6 times. He's doing about 20 songs per show, so it's not that hard to reach 50 different songs in 6 shows.

The #22 post from omnithanos is probably the most accurate.
He gets a total of 51 songs played.
