"There's No Party Like A Prince Party" (3/30 and 3/31 review)

woot!dancing jig

That's what the theme for this past weekend at Prince's Club 3121 should have been. It was AWESOME!! Prince surprised us with Sheila E., Tamar, Candy Dulfer and Sheila E's father and brother, Pete and Juan Escovedo, it was a blast of Soul, Blues, Jazz and Latin music this weekend at Prince’s Club 3121. Just unbelievable talent all in one place. Let me just start by saying after his performance this weekend I can now say that the mold was broken when Prince was made..so don't expect to find a carbon copy of him on EBAY or anywhere else...because it's not happening...he is "IT"..because he just is...the brother is off the chain.

There was soooo much energy in Club 3121 the entire weekend, major purple energy flowing all through the club…the vibe was right. Prince was full of surprises and extremely energetic and in a very positive mood. He was unstoppable. He sang the “Long and Winding Road” so beautifully and did a scream at the end that left you in awe. I do hope he records and releases a track of it. He mentally-seduced the audience with “Pink Cashmere” and did a nice, bluesy version of “Satisfied”. Prince and Sheila E. performed together as well as surprising us with Tamar. It was great seeing Tamar perform live on stage, brought back memories of her 2006 tour with Prince. Also, Prince's dancing skills was off the chain, the spins, the fast moving feet, singing while laying on his back, the screams, oh, the screams...ladies...you know what I'm talking about, then doing something like a "push-up" with one hand while singing....Wow!...have mercy!

My friends and I had a chance to get into the outer room of the aftershow on both nights. On Friday, I sat just outside of the main room, where the door was wide-open and you could see and hear the performance with no problem at all. On Saturday, sat in the outer room, more to the middle of the room, but could still hear and see the performance in the main room. Prince brought in a group called "Mosaic" which I heard also performed during the New Year's Eve weekend there as well. On Friday, Prince was in the main room for at least 2 hours and played a couple of songs and the main and outer room was jumping. On Saturday, he was there for less than an hour. I got into the outer room about a ½ hour before it ended, but we all knew it was the last night of the Jazz Cuisine, so I’m sure there was a deadline as to when they all had to be out of there. A lot of the musicians’ families/close friends were there, people from record companies were mostly in the main room on Friday, so very few regular Prince fans were able to get into the main room on both nights. Regardless, it was all worth every second. The entire weekend was awesome. If I had words to say to Prince and all the musicians that were on stage this weekend it would go like this:

Mike Phillips …you are a phenomenal musician; I loved your version of “It’s a wonderful world”. You play the sax with such emotion that you make the sax weep. I have a new respect for Jazz after I saw and heard you perform and now I am a fan;you can bet I will buy your music.

Sheila E: You are off the chain and then some, there’s not enough words in Webster’s to describe the music skills of you and your family.…you are a stellar performer.

Tamar and Shelby: 2 beautiful, extremely talented soul “sistas” with amazing and unique voices. How could Prince put both of these ladies on the stage at the same time without the stage trembling with emotion? When these 2 song birds sing, you feel the power of their voices and the words of the songs they sing.……just AWESOME.

Candy Dulfer: You rock! You’re an amazingly talented musician.

Cora, Josh, Morris Hayes, Renato and the Horn Section: You guys put on a fantastic performance this weekend, and that’s what happens when you work with the best, much blessings to all of you.

DJ Rashida: headbang dancing jig Thanks for keeping the positive party vibe flowing before the show-the videos played in the club gave us a history lesson about music and dance from Josephine Baker, to the Nicholas Brothers, the Rio De Janeiro Carnival dancers,70s free-style dancers, Soul train dancers, clips of West Side Story w/Rita Moreno, etc., and the music you spinned, definitely prepared me and my friends for an awesome night of watching Prince, his band and his surprise guests perform.

The Twinz: You were chosen by a music genius to perform with him on stage, that says a lot and you have proven that you can do it.…. and you have. Your energy on stage is contagious, many blessings and continued success to both of you.

PRINCE:
Brother Prince, and I say it like that as if you were my own brother……What can I say…you are a “genius” a truly, a truly gifted and talented musician and we love you for that. Your unselfishness to bring forth the talent of other musicians and have them share the stage with you, and also at times, have the spotlight shine solely on them, just shows what a beautiful soul and awesome human being you are. I don’t know you personally, but only through your music and that’s good enough for me, but keep doing what you’re doing, and a multitude of blessings will always come your way.

Well, that is just some of what I would say if I had to say it personally to all of them. And if any of you have not had the opportunity to see Prince at Club 3121, you are really missing out on one fantastic show. This weekend both Friday and Saturday were packed and full of energy, so you U.S. fans, hurry up and make plans. I met Prince fans from Holland and Japan and the Italians--Rita and her friend were there, and if all of them flew thousands of miles to see this show, you know it had to be worth it. So those of you who can go need to start making plans to catch the last shows in April.

Also, just some shoutouts to some Prince fans I met or spoke to while I was there, it was great seeing many of the “East Coast” crew there, and “SCNDLS” (boot lady).. (SCNDLS it was great meeting you! but I still can’t get over that you thought I was Panamanian and yes, I still don’t think I have an accent, and yes of course I’m proud of my Caribbean culture..lol!..anyway you'll know what I mean by all of that and I’ll be waiting to read your report about the show this weekend);“Housequake” congrats on Candy Dulfer speaking to you (smile), that must have been awesome, don’t worry “CJBabydaddy” will get over it (j/k)..lol…and to SOULCHICA..(((Big Hugs)))...always great to see you!....and kudos to the 4 latina sistas that stood together with us in unity at the show...and to the “3” people ((REAL BIG HUGS))... (you know who you are) that I hung out with and attended the concert with this weekend “Was the show awesome or what??”…...dancing jig woot!...until next time…… wink

Peace!
