Reports from 30th and 31st

My wife and I attended the concert Friday Night and sat at a table front left and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Not being a huge fan I was impressed with the quality of the show, the guitar I bought her and the warm reception we received from both the Harra's and Prince's staff.

We were invited to join in the after-jam and went into the little claustraphobic room. Saw Leo DiCaprio at the concert but not there. We got to sit between Tamar and the twins on one side and Shelia E and her family on the other. Everyone was very nice and having a great time!

I am nearly 40 - so staying up until 5 (8am body time) just destroyed me - but I managed to have some fun conversations with the band and a young group named Mosaic.

Went to bed and only got up to eat. At around 11pm I got a call from my wife (I was napping again!) and told to head on down to the restaraunt since we were invited to the jam-thing again. I would have rather slept but since the music and company were so darned good the night before - I went anyway. We sat in the locked down restaraunt eating and drinking and talking with Lena (Prince's chef) about the closing of the restaraunt. Manny the kitchen manager was pretty broken up - since he helped open the place. Many of the staff were becomming unemployed and feelings all around were running high.

We went into the "little" room and sat next to Prince's guitar stand and amp (the room was empty since we were in before the band or even security) but slowly filled up. Many of the people we had met the night before were escorted in and we spent some time chatting before the band came in. There weren't any celebs that I noticed (other than the musical kind), mostly staff and families of the restaraunt who were now out of a job (it was very nice to see Prince making such a gesture on what he knew was a tough night for them)! Made my respect for him grow enormously - what a class act!

His energy level was really high when he came in and he jammed a bit 'at" my dear wife which got me some real brownie points!LOL! You could tell he was feeling the mood of the folks in the room and was trying to counter it by working harder than even he normaly does. He invited us all to dance and was very playful. All-in-all, I think he did a great job under trying circumstances and he has my thanks on behalf of all the folks really "feeling" that evening.

I will probably spend some more time with him and that amazingly talented group of musicians he surrounds himself with! I loved how hard they all work, how passionate they are about music, how they don't drink or smoke, and how much they truly showed they cared about the lives of the people their work affects.

When he lands wherever he lands (LA or MN or other), I will probably get out there once or twice and poke my head in and reconnect with the wonderful people I met last weekend!

A special thanks to Jay and Gina of Harrah's, to Ruth (his secretary) and Lena who rocks as hard in the kitchen as Prince himself does on the stage. To Manny and many others left behind, all I got is an "I'm pulling for you"!

Prince now has a new fan
Wake up!......Wake up!
