Continuing 2 Nites 2 Remembr 2/9 & 2/10 2 Nites 2 Remembr: 2/9 3121 & Aftershow 2/10 Part 11….
Continuing w/ my report: I think I started dancing around 11 ish and didn’t stop until Prince ended the show around 2:00 a.m. The energy & excitement of the crowd was fabulous & Prince rocked! The whole night was surreal, but when security took the ropes down and invited us up on stage to dance w/ Prince, that was in the words of my girlfriend, “The Ultimate”. So, we seized the moment & started dancing on stage. Unbelievable! Prince was smiling and only a few feet away. I was so over come w/ joy and amazement that I can’t be sure what song was playing, but it was fast & funky!! Prince didn’t stay (sadly) on stage but a minute, he exited for a clothing change! It was unbelievable just the same. There’s More… Quite naturally everyone knows that Elton John was there in the audience, however we didn’t know until Prince announced towards the end and thanked him for coming 2 c the show. Once Prince decided 2 end that night, he made his way into the audience (not the first time, earlier when he was singing, “Satisfied” he walked right through the crowd, again favoring our side of the room)! Oh, so close and yet so far away! Anyway, he decides to sit at the table next to ours only one level up. He was only about 8 feet away and I was, once again mesmerized by his presence. He’s just chatting w/ the people at the table while the crowd is wanting more, (myself included). He seems to be enjoying his conversation as the crowd chants, “Purple Rain, Purple Rain, Purple Rain”….Then from behind me I see Elton John walking down the aisle and he approaches Prince, they exchange a few words and the next thing I know Elton John is singing, “The Long & Winding Road” on stage w/ Prince’s band. What an added bonus and unexpected surprise!! Seated so close to Prince, I couldn’t help but look to stare at him, as he moved to the music and drank his bottle of, what looked like water. We were in awe of the whole experience. Now Prince does decide to add in his part to the encore and reappears on stage dressed in red and looking very sexy, as usu. I think he played two more songs but I was having such a fabulous time and had already started our second bottle of Champagne, I can’t be sure. I think he did Musicology & Black Sweat, but I could be wrong! It’s a little foggy. The only saving grace to my sadness now that the show was over, was the simple fact I knew I was going to c & hear him again the next nite at the aftershow.! THE AFTERSHOW 2/10 In line @ 12:30 AM. We got our dinner and made ourselves comfortable on the floor as we knew it was going to be a long wait. We were # 5 in line when we arrived… listen closely for those of you who have never done this before. I learned a few things! Our wait to get in was about 2 and ½ hours as we didn’t actually get let into the restaurant until 3:00 a.m. (Good thing we took a nap earlier!) Here’s what I learned. There are actually two lines, one for us, the “waiters” and one for the “VIPS”… the celebrities and those who purchased the dinner package. We saw David Hasslehauf, David Cooperfield & that Asian chick from Greys Anatomy. The night before Sheila E showed up and played w/ Prince and I am so bummed that I missed that. I love her! Standing in line that long gives you a lot of opportunity to get to know the people around you and gather even more information, for future reference. Did you know that if you let the CD Musicology play out, that there is a lost track # 84 called “Wasted Tears”… I heard he played that at the after show the nite before. Oh, the things you learn when you talk w/ other die hard Prince fans. I love it. Thanks Darren! I Digress!! Ok, 3:00 and it’s finally time to get let in, thank God my feet were killing me in my 3 inch heels. Remembr when I said I started out # 5 in line, well, we almost didn’t even get into the Band room… Because between the VIPs and celebs, maybe 50 people or so just walked right in w/ no wait after Prince’s show. If I had known that I would have sprung for an extra few bucks and gotten the dinner package! Live & learn. We were escorted down a long hallway and into a large room that leads to a much smaller and very much darker room, where the band is all set up. We were actually the last few people seated in that room that I was told holds about 80. We sat in a booth against the wall and sat with 4 other people, the two people who were behind us in line and two women who had already been seated. Fortunately, Kelly seated at the end, was a regular and filled me in on the scoop of how things were and how things have changed. She was cool. She was up dancing most of the nite which gave me the freedom to do the same & I did! Seated @ 3:15 a.m., the band started jamming. The waitresses were quite nice and surprisingly attentive. Naturally, I was quite anxious 2 c Prince and waited, once again for his arrival. Around 4:00, he shows up standing in the doorway, where I came in, wearing a white robe like two piece outfit w/ gold trim collar and cuffs. He reminded me of “Jesus” … He just stands there admiring the band and their tight sound and then he walks through the crowd and into the next room noted The VIP room, open and attached to the band, but “you can’t go in there” . He sat down w/ Shelby & the sax player (sorry I don’t know his name) and talked maybe for another 15 min. or so. Then suddenly he moves his way towards the band and eases himself in and begins to join them. I think he played a little key board and then went to guitar. He played from 4:20 til 5:10 or so. Set list* Baby Love Must Be Something in the Water *Rock style, I almost didn’t recognize it. Crazy (again) More Bounce 2 the ounce Down By The River Side. I may have missed a song, but it was short and sweet. After Shelby sang and she CAN sing Prince says, “I asked her for her autogragh & she said “no”. Then Prince says, “five bucks?” She says “keep it”. They all laugh. Oh, talented, sexy and funny!! The band was tight and jammed, Prince jammed on guitar and seemed very relaxed and not overly energized. We enjoyed the music and just being in such an intimate setting with such a talented man. In closing, I just want to say this whole experience was thoroughly enjoyed in spite of all the waiting & the cost, it was well worth it. I enjoyed meeting cool fellow Prince fans/lovers and I can’t wait to see him again, when he tours. Thank you Prince, God Bless & Peace!. | |

I went to that museum as well and didn't like that wax figure of Prince either. And I was at the 2/9 aftershow where he sang Wasted Kisses, I had never even heard of that song and fell in love with it that night. That usually happens to me when I hear a Prince song for the first time live, so today I ordered the CD from ebay, just hope it gets to me in good shape. Here's what u do:
At the last song of the new power soul cd, which i believe is 'i like funky music', just chill! Kick back, look @ ur fine self in the mirror, don't touch the cd player, and after about 5 minutes, wasted kisses. don't get 2 excited, the best songs on that cd r 'the one' + 'come on'! i saw Prince do new power soul in NYC in '98, awesome! i reminisce 2 much veronikka said: FrankieDJ said: Veronikka,
