Vegas last week...canceled

confused Go figure...The weekend I was in Vegas Prince cancels on me. I did get some nice pic's inside of the RIO and the building. It was very, very cold out there but it was still cool to be in Vegas.

FYI - All people were talking about was how amazing the show is and can't wait to go again.

You seem surprised. Did you not know it was cancelled before you went? I'm not sure how -- it was all anyone was talking about last week.

prime may very well have known... but, you know, what with the cost of cancelling flights, hotel accommodation, rearranging time of work and shit like that, I'm guessing prime had no option but to go. I imagine this may be prime's way of telling us that prime's a little bummed at the fact that he shelled out for, what was supposed to be a regular and ongoing conceert deal, and then got stiffed by Prince's cancellation. I'm guessing and, please prime, I have no wish to speak on your behalf or for you, BUt this is what happens when the mountain must go to mohammed. If it was tour and a date got cancelled, at least you would be at home...ish. If Prince bases himself somewhere and gives the impression that the party's gonna rock every weekend, people are gonna get pissed if they arrange to travel, whether it be cross town, cross country or cross borders and oceans and find out that he's decided not to play that night.

Thanks for your very lengthy and mostly beside-the-point explanation.

Prime started his/her post with "Go figure" -- which is an expression of bemusement. That is what caused me to wonder if s/he hadn't known what was going on ahead of time.

There's no doubt that Prince's unreliability makes it very hard for anyone considering going long distance and spending much money on the trip. Ultimately that must surely cost him audience numbers, although upto now it has been doing very well from what I've read. But I suppose it is very little difference from the days when people used to go to Minneapolis hoping for a show at Paisley Park and being disappointed.

So many people are expecting a tour announcement after the Superbowl, and yet others are planning to see him in Vegas in the coming months, somebody's going to be disappointed one way or another, I suspect if there is a tour it will be much later in the year while Prince gets his Vegas committments out of the way.

I'd be pissed.

I remember the show at the Forum in L.A. About thirty minutes before the show, he canceled. Something about his foot being hurt. Chaka Kahn was supposed to sing - Sheila E., etc... this was around the Emancipation cd. '96. '97???

This, after a previous postponement of the same concert... confused

I was so depressed. But, truth be told, I'd be back in line for the next concert the next day if need be.

I've gone to two Prince concerts since... I can't wait for the next one!

Eh, we're all sheep. cool

My apologies. I read the 'go figure' as resigned to a.n.other Prince about turn, as opposed to bemusement at his not being available to watch. I also, obviously, misinterpreted the 'everyone's been talking about it all week' as glib and not entirely considering the distance that the orger could possibly have been travelling. Again, my apologies for any misinterpretation.

That said.

If Prince is going to 'commit', then he should commit and allow those that wish to travel to Vegas to see him a schedule of shows for a number of months ahead of time. Otherwise he's just being a git.

I fully agree with this and what you said above and have discussed this much on other threads over the past week.
I have to pay for my trip today (plan to be there 17th-22nd). I can't tell you how upset I'm going to be if those dates get cancelled when they are still posted on Ticketmaster right now. I gave in enough to "Prince world" issues by waiting till a week ahead to book the trip- costing me about $100 more than it had to and making my traveling partners nuts. (It's actually sort of funny to listen to my friend speak of Prince at this point (as a non-fan)- much more politely than any of us here, "Who does he think he is?" and the like).

I am with you, we were in Vegas that weekend as well. I would have changed flights etc....but I took my sister for her birthday and she couldn't go this weekend or the next, so....we just went. We had a nice time, but I was pretty bummed the whole weekend. (didn't help we were stuck in Denver for most of the time.)

is Prince actually staying/living at the Rio while he's in town?

I remember when he was supposed to play in San Diego in 98 during the super bowl week there and cancelled. I had 3rd row floor tix...was soooo dissapointed. But I have forgotten about all that after catching many shows on the 2004 tour!

HI I REALLY WANT TO GO SEE HIM. EITHER GO TO VEGAS FOR WEEKEND OR WAIT FOR A TOUR IN EUROPE. BUT WHAT YOU HAVE GOT TO REALIZE IS THAT PRINCE IS ONLY HUMAN HE'S NOT PERFECT IM SURE HE DOESNT LIKE TO LET HIS FANS DOWN BUT THERE MAYBE A VERY GOOD REASON FOR IT. HE NOT A SPRING CHICKEN ANYMORE AND HAS TO SLOW DOWN AND TAKE CARE OF HIM SELF. I DONT WANT HIM EXAUSTING HIMSELF AND GETTING ILL THEN HE WOULDNT BE PLAYING AT ALL. THEN YOU REALLY WOULD BE COMPLAINING. I KNOW ITS DISAPOINTING WHEN SOMTHING DONT WORK OUT BUT THATS LIFE INIT!!!

I've got free (non transferable) airline tickets, so it's a one shot deal.
If I miss him, I won't be able to see him in a club, which has been a dream.
I've been going to concerts since the Controversy tour, but never in a small venue. sad

Ahhhhh....I was there neutral

That really sucked. We were all hangin in the parking lot getting "prepped" for the big show, and then right when we started to walk towards The Forum, we began hearing chatter throughout the parking lot that the show had been cancelled. What a let down!!!!

We were at Excalibur that same weekend too! Its a total dive, but we went very last minute because some friends invited us out to stay in their room with them. So, we didn't pay one cent.....of course we had to go check out 3121 before we got back on the road to head home cool

We took tons of pics....will post them later!

U must see him a small venue - its mindblowing really. The One Nite Alone tour was cool and somewhat intimate, but I gotta say my fav club show so far was his aftershow @ the House of Blues in Hollywood back in 2004.....2am to almost 5am eek
