Nov. 24 (J-Davey and Prince) review

All I have to say is this.....

He covered Bounce to the Ounce by Zapp, 30 seconds of Miss You by the Rolling Stones and then a version of Crazy by Gnarls Barkley that would make you forget you ever liked the original. Crazy featured Mike Phillips (as well as Zapp) on the whatever that voice synthesizer is called and he did a great job.

Nobody knew J-Davey was going to play and most people just sat there with a "where's Prince" look on their faces but considering there was no notice whatsoever I don't blame them. J-Davey was great though.

Someone that worked at the Rio told me P Diddy was at the show last weekend. The lady that manages the 3121 Boutique walked around the club with a can of air freshener and sprayed it everywhere. Prince is very much into the smell of the club and the fact that there are no restrooms and there is no smoking allowed makes for one of the best smelling clubs I've ever been to.

Sorry if this is not a great review but I'm pretty tired. Check the setlist from the previous shows. It was pretty much the same. No Fury. During If I Was Your Girlfriend right before the line "Can I make you breakfast sometime" he said "You don't have cooties do you?" and everyone laughed.

here are the songs I remember

Spirituality
Around the World in A Day
Shhhhh!
Black Sweat
Lolita
Musicology
Purple Rain
Pink Cashmere - Damn Near 10 Minutes
If I Was Your Girlfriend
Kiss

Crazy, Miss You, Bounce to the Ounce, What Have You Done For Me Lately, Pass the Peas

Oh yes, I remember they played that at the opening weekend (11/10 and 11/11) a snippet of the indian guy dancing, as part of the clips showed on the big screens, with the soul train dancers, josephine baker, other clips of African-American people dancing from the 50s through the 70s era and also clips from a latin movie that someone later posted included the latin actor Catinflas in it and then they showed a clip of the actor dancing in the Napolean Dynamite movie.

They played some Indian movie clips that were way too long and boring. It was better when they had Grafitti Bridge and Cherry Moon clips running.

"More Bounce To The Ounce"????? Who was playing synth?

Oh, and , uh... "Zapp" couldn't have been there, because Roger Troutman was tragically shot 2 death by his brother years ago.
"He's a musician's musician..."

Crazy by Gnarls Barkley??? OMG! I heard The Raconteurs play a rocked up version of that tune at Lollapalooza and it floored me.

I cannot fathom how P. did it!

Please describe as best as you can. Swoon.

Must. Get. To. Las Vegas.

hmmm....it was one long jam that started with Bounce to the Ounce, then Miss You and right into Crazy but it was hard to tell what song it was until Mike started singing into his voice-enhancer thing....it's hard to explain but it was so well done it made me want to hear that version of it only from now on.....
