Friday Vegas Reports Just got back and am pretty tired. My thoughts: Sold out show but not a very crowded feeling to the club. The club smelled and looked incredible. Dj Rashida was amazing. We all waited in the same line but members/pre-sale ticket holders were allowed in first. You could walk around inside with no problem. He opened with Let's Pretend We're Married and that led into Jailhouse Rock. Other highlights for me were Pink Cashmere and the solo during Anotherlover. 17 Days was also very nice and the Twinz can not only dance very well but they can sing!! That's all I can recall right now. Oh, he started at 12:13 and ended slightly before 2:00 I think. Not a long show but a very satisfying one.

This is what Sbacon1999 just wrote, THANKS 4 THAT!
Hi everyone, Here's what I could remember tonight. I'll try to add more details tomorrow. Prince was looking F-I-N-E as usual! The let in club members at 9:30 (they gave us green wristbands while we were in line). When we were lined up outside getting ready to go in, a man and woman came out with all these new Prince and 3121 shirt samples on hangers and asked us what we thought. They held up each one and gauged our reaction, then took notes. There were lots of cool shirts so I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot of new merchandise in the near future! The club is really nice – very spacious but not too big, circular in shape. The floor is pretty large and surrounded by two levels of booth tables that would be about stage height or slightly higher. Incense was burning up on stage when we arrived. Around 10, DJ Rashida did her thing and she was great. Really good mix of music that helped pass the time. There are also 6 large video screens on the left and right walls of the club, so they were playing random old school video clips and then they started playing UTCM and Graffiti Bridge. All told, they showed about 75% of each film. Prince went on stage around 12:20am, played until 2:10. Prince wore a black, Asian style, two piece outfit with roses on the right side and part of the back of the black top. He also wore an all red outfit for the second half of the show. Sequined boots. The stage was quite spacious and Prince was center stage with his mic, the twinz on each side of him. I would estimate the twinz were only on stage for about 1/3 of the numbers, maybe half. But not nearly as many as I thought they would be. Cora rocked on the drums as usual and did a great job on Shhh. Good to see Morris Hayes on keyboard. Forgive me but I can’t recall the bass player’s name, but it’s the same guy who played at the Tamar shows. Prince played two guitars most of the night – the leopard print one and the orange Fury guitar. I’m sure you guitarheads know the official names for them! I think it’s Fender and Stratocaster models? Anyway… There were slight sound problems during the show but nothing major, mostly crackling and popping from one set of side speakers. Overall I would say the show was pretty choreographed and more of a performance than usual small shows from Prince. The crowd was very into it though and gave him a warm welcome. He told us he loved us several times and was very interactive with the crowd. The Twinz were flexing all over the stage and used a variety of props – chairs, umbrellas, changed outfits a few times. I think the worst use of the twins that added to the over-choreographed feel was during Joy In Repetition. Prince acted out the song with one of the Twinz, actually grabbing her from the stage on one end and dragging her back across and flinging her into the fog in the back. The whole thing looked a little awkward and I remember thinking ‘I wish he would just stand at the mic under the spotlight and sing this one’. But he’s Prince and he rescued it, drawing the crowd back in with chants of “Joy in Repetition’. Lots of funkface while playing guitar. And overall the setlist was great for hardcore fans, but enough hits where the casual attendee would be satisfied too. He talked to the crowd quite a bit, slowing down 7 at one point to talk to us about the song. He said he normally doesn’t like to talk about his music because he likes to leave it up to the beholder for interpretation, but this time he wanted to talk. He told a story about going to a store recently to buy a ring for himself (he had it on his right ring finger) and there was a woman working there who said “I’m sorry, I just have to do this” and she walked up to him and gave him a hug and a kiss on the cheek. He said he didn’t mind because he “loves love”. Then he went on to talk about love being all around him and that he used to care what people said about him or when they told him what to do, but now he doesn’t. He was down one time, down a second time…but he won’t be down again. Unsure if he was referring to his two marriages? Mike Phillips joined in for a bit after Pink Cashmere (this was the song where Prince said “you know you can be sexy without being dirty, lemme show you). And then when he talked about “making a coat of pink cashmere” he said something about “well you know I won’t actually be making it myself, but I got the money in my pocket to buy a nice one” Oh yeah, I remember one woman Prince brought up on stage. He motioned to her to go and dance on the outramp but she kept following him around, all the way back to his mic with him. So she stood behind him and Prince sort of stopped and said 'You know you have kids!' and security came and escorted her off. Prince started laughing and said "I felt, I felt a little..." and then made a motion with his hands to infer she was squeezing his ass. It was pretty funny, he was a good sport about it. Always always great to see Prince again and a pleasure meeting some fans in line as well. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow night brings! I’m off to bed… This are the songs as best I can remember them, not in the correct order: Let's Pretend We're Married Spirituality (Sexuality) Johnny Be Good Lolita Black Sweat U Got the Look Anotherloveholenyohead If I Was Your Girlfriend Shhh Cream Joy in Repetition Fury Pink Cashmere 7 17 Days (just the band, no Prince) Encore Purple Rain (said he promised a friend he would play this one) Let’s Go Crazy [Edited 11/11/06 11:29am]

Thank you for the reports!!!! Keep them coming. It is good to know that those will members/presale tickets get in first. For those of you who attended and were standing, did you have to look up at the stage all night? Did the tables have better visibility or was it all the same?

I think I'm just concerned because I'm not sure how well that'll come across after I've been sinning in SinCity all day waiting for the concert.

I'm pretty certain that the VIP tables have a clear view from each one. I can't say the same about the floor but since I'm tall it doesn't matter. I don't understand why tall folks need to stay in front though. I always hang out in the back. So my advice is if you are tall.....get there whenever you want. If not, wait in line all day so you can run up to the front of the stage and then stand for another 2 hours.

Thanks for the reports! 17 Days is my FAVORITE Prince song, with Pink Cashmere being top 5 and I've never heard them live so I'm a lil' jealous right now. (But at least 17 Days was sans Prince.)

Members ?? PreSale ?? 'Scuse me but am I missing something here? I thought he closed down the NPGMC ? If not how do I make sure I am STILL a member? Thank you, (not that can get out to Vegas anyway right now... just had a baby... I'll have to wait... until I can convince my wife to let me go ) Peace... MRM

The npgmc is closed, however recently a few emails using the npgmc email address have been sent out to old members giving the opportunity to buy tickets early - the presale. Quite a few have complained they never received these emails. There's no way I know of to check your membership details now, everybody who was a member technically still is a member, the emails would have been sent out to the last email address on their database. I don't always think it is npgmc's fault if you don't get the email, sometimes people change email and somehow think they will miraculously keep track or other times it gets dumped into spam folders by anti-virus software.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that I went to a Vegas show in May... [Edited 11/12/06 9:59am] We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. I check my mail daily hoping 2 see something from npgmc and fine nothing. I purchased lots of mechandise from the store also and feel very left out. I will go see Prince regardless of this but was hoping I would receive something from them. Yes I do feel left out

It was a rhetorical question. But thanks, anyway. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
