Prince on Live 8? Will the man accept the invitation this time?
I think he should! Hell, give them a few tracks from the Ona-piano album or something from the Rainbow Childeren. But that, ofcourse, is wishful thinking... Art, Amsterdam, Holland. I'm a Rainbow Children, Xpectation, News and Musicology lover and I'm startin'to be a 3121 lover.

Live8 is happening on the 2nd of july 2005. It's the follow up to LiveAid. Again with all the important artists in the world performing. This time to change the opinion of world leaders towards Africa. I.e. helping Africa by ending all the'financial 'debts' of the continent.

I heard that The Who and the reunited Pink Floyd are gonna be there! Prince & the NPG should definetly play that show, but who knows! He's funny like that.

if Pink Floyd is there (yep, reunited) I would say the revolution for one song and then the NPG for another one! any suggestions for songs that he should perform?

Prince should play at one of the venues. After all it is for charity.

I don't see why he "should". It would be great if he did but he's done a lot of charity work throughout his career.

[Edited 7/1/05 7:52am] [Edited 7/1/05 8:02am]

Radio 1 here today said that the rumour is that the US co-organiser Russel Symonds (sp?) is begging Prince and MJ to duet on 'We are the World' together..... Can't see P going for that (and I really don't think that should be his contribution to this!!) He should do contribute something else though IMVHO

Prince, the finest musician on the planet was conspicuous by his absence at Live 8. I was hoping he would be a part of this marvelous campaign. He doesn't seem to attend these type of events, anyone know why?

This is exactly what I thought. If anything it would have been great PR to show that he isn't the biggest arse on the planet.. but alas. People coming together for an event like this was history in the making and was fab. Hello All. For those who didn't know, Live 8 was a series of free concerts that were held on July 2, 2005. The concerts were held in USA, UK, Germany, Italy, France, Japan, Russia Federation, South Africa and portions of the concert were satellite linked. A final concert was held in Scotland on July 6, 2005.
Similar to the Live Aid events, the purpose of Live 8 was to raise awareness for the famine in Africa. This time around, these concerts were offered for free with the majority of tickets offered up to the public through cell phone text messaging contests. As most of you know, Prince offered up a video at the Live Aid event that was played at the event 4 the Tears in Your Eyes. It was a black and white video with Lisa Coleman, Wendy Melvoin. This track was available on cassette, LP, and the Japan CD release of We Are the World, USA for Africa. A different version of this song is also available on the three CD box set titled Prince Hits. It is on disc 3, song 19. It was “hoped” that this time around the Purple One would grace the stage to rock the world. Unfortunately, Prince was a no show at the event. It would have been great to see Prince along side James Brown at the Scotland show. More information about the Live 8 event can be found at http://thelive8concert.com
