The fact that we can actually ATTEND the soundcheck is a gift in itself. Appreciate that!

Maybe, he just wasn't in a very talkative mood. Or, maybe he was in a bad mood and he wanted to get outta there and pep himself up so that it didn't reflect in the actual concert, which is what you payed for, in the first place. To say he "dissed" you is REALLY selfish, immature and unfair to Prince! He doesn't have to let people in to watch the soundcheck. We certainly don't PAY to get into the soundcheck. He doesn't even owe us that. He owes us a concert and that's it. Soundchecks and aftershows are just special extras.

Now, I can see if he invited everybody in and was being a complete asshole to people. That's uncalled for. But he wasn't. Don't blame him because the soundcheck didn't live up to your potentially unrealistic expectations. You were lucky to be there. Period. I understand your disappointment but don't say Prince dissed you. That's not true.

Actually we do pay to get in the soundcheck. That is one of the perks for paying club members. Now if you would read the other post I made after the original you would see that I am using this post to try and understand what took place and not just place a one sided opinion.

i was there. i had an awsome experience. it's always easy with hindsight to say something could have been better. sure they could. i don't know what the hell you're talking about when you said he did'nt play with any passion. the old saying is so true. you can't please everbody. i guess if he had come down and sat in your lap you still would'nt be satisfied.

1. He arrived late.

Um, I don't think that's for you to decide...he arrives when he arrives...If the show, and NOT the sound check, started late, then oh well...it's not like concerts ALWAYS start right on the nose...sheeesh...

2. Yeah he played some stuff we hadn't heard, but there was no passion in his playing. Nothing near like the concert.

Um...so you're complaining because the way he played at a sound check wasn't the same as how he played during the actual concert???...lol...You have GOT to be kiddin' me...that's like going to see a football team practice, then complaining because they didn't give their all like they do during the game...lol...

3. The people he got to sing didn't get too close to him nor get any personal interaction. It seemed so preplanned that it lacked any coolness to me. Just something to fill the time.

Damn, who really cares about ths shit, seriously??...I"d just be happy to be in the ROOM with his while he and the band practiced...I sure as hell wouldn't be complaining because he didn't come over and pat me on the back for showing up...it's wild, but we'll shell out $$$ for lousy recorded bootlegs of rehearsals with no complaint, yet when we actually get to witness a rehearsal in person, we find all sorts of reasons to bitch about it not being perfect...

4. He had a couple of hundred people in the audience and he chose to sit on the edge of the stage and let one person tell him a long story. Then he left.

What the hell else was he supposed to do???...he could have just left with a wave and a "see you guys later", and that STILL would have been more than enough in my eyes...

I felt very dissed by this. Not because I didn't get to speak to him. It was that he didn't make any atempt to interact with the rest of us. I think he could have used the same 5 minutes to stand on the stage with the mic and take questions from the audience.

It's a SOUND CHECK, not an appearance on Oprah!!...lol...What you're priviledged to do, is witness Prince and his band practicing and warming up, instead of standing your ass outside for 3 hours waiting for the concert to start and watching cars pass by...think about that before you find yourself feeling "dissed"...

Now before I get jumped by the protectors of Prince and people who feel he can do no wrong...

Please...you're only getting jumped by people who have a LICK of common sense...you don't have to be a "Prince Protector"--fuck that, you don't even have to LIKE Prince to see that you're making a HUGELY ridiculous deal out of some trivial shit...

I understand I only paid for the soundcheck and not a personal one on one session

If you really understood that, you never would have felt "dissed" OR desired to start up a thread about this nonsense...

but if you are going to be a professional you need to understand that we didn't wait in line for hours just for the music.

So every concert you've EVER gone to, no matter WHO it was, you expected "personal interaction" from the performers??...Puh-leeze...the only thing you did was read about other people's experiences at sound checks, and thought that because others had this experience that it entitled YOU to have that exact same damn experience...well, life doesn't work that way...the ONLY thing you're entitled to is admittance to watch the sound check....

I sincerely hope Prince cancels sound checks from now on...too many people are whining about dumb shit...("Prince made me cry, Prince called me a liar, Prince dissed me cuz he didn't try harder to make me feel loved")...I have never run into such an immature and moronic bunch of fuckers as I have lately on this site...

I think what she said makes a lot sense. You want to take what I say and rip it apart like you are the ever rightous. Prince could take a shit in your hand and you would thank him for the warm feeling. Prince set it up for the fans to be there. He treats all his audiences the same, but all his club members different in each town. You where not there and there for can't relate. So before you go calling people whiners and fuckers you really need to read each story for what it is. I'm not basking in the glory of the messiah, I'm asking for him to treat all his fans the same. I'm not whining about what I did not get as an individual, but how he treated Houston fans as a whole.

If he doesn't want us there fine. We won't wait in line. If he is not going to interact with the entire crowd, fine then just walk off the stage. But why alienate 200 people for the sake of one. And do this in front of the entire crowd.

I'm sorry for dropping to your level. I only attacked you, because you attacked me first. We all have our opinion, but we don't have to attack each other to express them. We may agree on the next subject, just not this one.

FAATECH I have to agree with WellBeyond on this one I still do not understand why you would feel dissed there are so many other posts from members who attended that soundcheck including myself and we all thought it was great.
It was just unfortunate that a couple knuckleheads may have changed the atmosphere of the interaction.

OK, tell me again, I should have just been happy. VelvetJ totally agreed with me, but yet you made no reply on that or did you even read it? I personally don't care what negative stuff you say. THIS IS A FORUM FOR ALL OPINIONS. Your's, mine and everyone else's. So bring your worst shit, cause I DO live in the REAL WORLD and not in the Purple Mansion. I admire the man, love the music but I don't worship him. Call it whining, bitching or whatever. Don't let us in the soundchecks or pitch them as a perk if he is going to treat us all different. You think it is fair to only talk to one person out of 200 plus?

Something has to be done about individuals taking up too much time. Club members can't seem to handle these soundchecks without supervision.

Rules should be announced by a Paisley staffer moderator as soon as people come into the soundcheck.

I intended to tell you earlier that I agree with you. It is only a fair thing. People who keep responding negatively keep missing the point. It is not about what I did or did not get. It is about how WE AS MEMBERS were treated as a WHOLE.

::sigh::: Glad I got to attend the earlier soundchecks on this tour. I can see them being a thing of the past real soon. Some of you guys are draining with the constant complaints about petty things.

Not to bust your balls or anything but, some folks just don't get the meaning of "soundcheck".
It's not play with the fans time, or submit demo tape time, or Q&A time, etc. They are rehearsing for the show.

See this is what was so cool about the DC soundchecks (Divinity outburst aside) we came in and watched him work. We didn't come in expecting to get a chance to play his guitar or sing or, show off some costume or any of that stuff. We were observers, nothing more, nothing less.

It couldn't have been said any better than that!!!!

dude, i hope you dont take this the wrong way...but, i myself have noticed your responces have gotten a lil nastier and personal...i've always noticed that you like to break peoples responces down and argue down every single typed word...however, this new quickness to call out someones feelings or responces as stupid or immature doesnt seem fair to that person...

what everybody at the org, at these soundchecks and in prince's camp need to agree on is that people are paying monies to recieve special perks....Prince's camp needs to set perameters, in advance, on what is included in the perks... leaving this up to the customer's impressions (impressions that are reinforced with stories posted at the org) is a sure fire way for failure... someone earlier pointed out that maybe a moderator is needed..i think this is a great way of letting people know what they can expect...maybe even emails could be sent out confirming one's eligibilty to attend a soundcheck, then with that send a reminder on *conduct* during the soundcheck..not all people are industry savy..maybe they dont understand the nature of these things...maybe they have never visited the org to read whats going on..(heck, i got one friend like that myself)

...or maybe nothing needs to be changed and we as fans need to work it out on our own...but whatever the case is, we shouldnt be crapping on people for having opinions and voicing them at the one place there is commonality....

i know you (and others who are crapping on and on) are probably just annoyed by these *new types* of threads...but, i ask for some compassion..jesh, throwing away $100 bucks, plus $125 a seat and travel expenses is a big time investment...the best we can do in response is try and be proactive and constructive...lets try and make this new venture a success for all parties involved..

No, no - it just depends on his mood. He did three shows in Dc, and I was there for all of them. Each night the mood was different, and the two soundchecks were a little different too.
He didn't let us really ask questions, just at a moment when there was dead air did someone blurt something out. In some cases he had NO time - being late makes it worse.

So don't worry. Just never expect ANYTHING at the soundchecks or at the Celebration. When you least expect it - something cool happens...trust me.

wink[/quote]

I agree very much so.....I was also at the 3 DC shows.....and the 2 soundchecks he allowed himself to be as much as a regular joe smo as possible....not in rockstar mode....he wasnt there to entertain during the soundcheck, he just did what he pleased, weather it being talking or checkin the sound or playing a tune.....the concert is where the rehearsed rockstar bit came into play.

OK, no need to go into the concert, because there are enough people to write about that. In a word it was awesome. The energy was completely different from his Hit N Run tour. It was deffinitly there, but a little more sophisticated and music focused than before. And yes, I did love the concert.

Now here is my problem. Houston has a lot of club members. Prince and his crew knows this, because our names are on the list. You would think the more you get the more you give. As Prince likes to say, "Is is better to give or to receive." Well, we gave, he received and we received very little in return. Check this out, this is how it went from my point of view.

1. He arrived late. The first people got let in around 5:45 PM. I was dead in the center of the line and I didn't get in until a little after 6 PM.

2. Yeah he played some stuff we hadn't heard, but there was no passion in his playing. Nothing near like the concert.

So the concert was "awesome", but you expected to get a soundcheck filled with passion?

LET ME TRY THIS AGAIN.....PLEASE READ THIS... I AM STATING SOMETHING POSITIVE...NO BITCHING OR MOANING ABOUT PRINCE, JUST THE SEATING ARRANGEMENTS OF 180 TICKETS RESERVED FOR NPG MUSIC CLUB MEMBERS, WHEN 200 MEMBERS WERE PRESENT, SO YES... THE SEATING FOR MUSIC CLUB MEMBERS WAS OVER SOLD AND I DID RAISE HELL ABOUT IT, BUT I LET IT GO AND ENJOYED A WONDERFUL SHOW BY PRINCE.....SO NOW READ BELOW OKAY...
*****

Alright, I was one of the members who didn't have a seat after soundcheck, we were told that the row we were in was for ticketmaster , not npg music club, so yes the concert section promised was in fact OVERSOLD...I got in to arguements with security, the ushers, and this blonde chick who was supposedly over the music club organization, she was a total twit, one minute saying you could NOT save a seat for someone, then changing her story and saying you could! I WAS NOT LATE FOR THE SHOW OR SOUNDCHECK...but my best friend and I were moved around from seat to seat, along with other members in the same situation...We were given seats in row K, a row that was supposedly empty, THIS WAS A LIE AS THE SHOW WAS SOLD OUT AND THERE WERE OTHER PEOPLE WITH TICKETS TO THE SAME SEATS!!
So, I was beyond dissapointed, I spent half of the show being treated rudely, my friend was so angry she stayed in the lobby area. I didn't want to miss the show, so I went back in, the security gaurds and ushers tried to be nicer to me and moved non members from the obstructive view seats...I was determined to get a better view, I want to say THANK YOU to fellow orger IWBYLOVER...he shared his 3rd row isle seat with me...and the ushers and security (now knowing who I was) were kind and apologetic and let me stay right where I was.....SO TO END ON A POSITIVE NOTE.....
I saw the last hour of the show in an excellent "shared" seat with an excellent view....But, the best part of this entire ordeal.... I was one of the 3 people that got to meet Prince, I was the last person to tell him my story about my kids...my daughter almost being born at his Lovesexy TOUR show, and my son being born on his birthday and how much we love him...NO I WAS NOT THE ONE WHO TOLD A LONG ASS STORY, THAT WAS THAT FIRST CHICK...LOL.
Prince was very nice and gracious and made eye contact, I was nervous, then calm, he even asked where my son was, because he needed to talk to him...my son is 6 and daughter is 13, they were so happy that I told Prince about them...
SO ALL I CAN SAY IS ...THANK YOU PRINCE ..for a great show and for being such a wonderful person...my dream to meet you came true, and as for the other problems I experienced....ALL FORGOTTEN...Peace and Blessings smile

I can't believe this moaning !
I'd be happy just to see him soundcheck. Who cares if he speaks to anyone ?
I saw him soundcheck for about 1 minute in '92, before being thrown out by security, from the other side of the arena, and it was amazing !!
It's a souncheck, not a performance, so you shouldn't expect too much. You should be happy he lets anyone in at all, nevermind him being late !!
I think too many fans expect too much.

Sorry, but if you get to "vent", then so do I...

Amen!! I could've cried about a lot of shit for the DC soundchecks, but I was just fine with what I got. For instance, he didn't let anyone on stage to perform with him like in other cities. Big fuckin' deal!! He didn't promise to do everything the fuckin' same in every city!!!!! I wish we got one aftershow in DC, but fuck it...I'll hear the NY one soon, I'm sure! I've ripped Prince for a lot of shit before, so there's no way I could be classified as an asskisser, but this original note had me laughin'!! A soundcheck is for hearing the band run through shit for the show or otherwise, and everything/anything else is a plus (no matter what city). People expect too much shit these days! Damn!

Harsh but on point. But, for all the folks who get the concept of "soundcheck" I hope they don't get cancelled. But I wouldn't blame Prince if he did.

What a nob! You are allowed to sit in while he does the sound-check for the nights show. It's not a meet-and-greet session! Nor should you criticise the passion of his playing, forfucksake!

All I can say is UUUGHHHHH...

It was his faith that made him get closer to fans, right? For once I'm hoping his belief in God gets even stronger, so that he keeps the soundcheck access going in Europe.

I would hope folks over here would be a little more gracious (lousy stinkin' Americans!) smile

Be my guest and shack up with rebecca2 on this topic...lol..it'll only end up making you look even sillier than you already do(and that's saying a shitload)...

dude, i hope you dont take this the wrong way...but, i myself have noticed your responces have gotten a lil nastier and personal...i've always noticed that you like to break peoples responces down and argue down every single typed word...however, this new quickness to call out someones feelings or responces as stupid or immature doesnt seem fair to that person...

i know you (and others who are crapping on and on) are probably just annoyed by these *new types* of threads...but, i ask for some compassion...

Gee SkletonKee, I could say you show too much compassion & too little nastiness - that would just be my opinion, right?

If you wanna dislike the way WB breaks these fools down, I guess that's cool. But he makes TOO much sense up in here to have a finger wagged @ him for not coddling whiners.

He's one of the most fair & civil people on the Org. Hell, I think he was being nice! lol

Bottom line: we can all criticize each other, that's the nature of this thing. But it's funny that he's being tagged for not being as compassionate as you'd like him to be. confused What is this, CompassionForWhinyBitches.Org??? Gimme a break!
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

I disagree that buy paying for the club, we are PAYING to get into the soundcheck. We get 4 CD's and preferred seating at concerts, period. If he wants to let us in to watch him rehearse, well, then he's just being nice, as far as I'm concerned. And if he's in a gregarious and talkative mood and I get the chance to talk to him, then it must be my lucky day.
