House of Blue Set list

The Work
1+1+1 is 3
Santana Jam
Pass the Pees
Beautiful Strange
Ballad of Dorothy Parker
777-9311/HollyRock!
Paisley Park
Calhoun Square
Larry Graham Bass Jam
Encore: Another Santana Jam?

I may be leaving something out and the order may be a tad bit off half way through....and I'm not sure what specific Santana songs he played but they sounded very Santana-esque. Each song was a loooong jam and many Sheila E. solos. Also...Sheila led a little conga line round the stage with Prince, Maceo, Larry, Candy, and that other trombone player. They also did a few of those synchronized "forward-and back" old school Prince band dances together. It was amazing...I'm so exhausted!

Thanks for posting the HOB setlist. It was literally impossible to park anywhere near the HOB, so I just couldn't make it happen last night. Sounds like an awesome show.

However, the thing that would have sent it over the top would have been an appearance from Wendy & Lisa. The hatchet burial is long overdue.

1+1+1=3 was a highlight of the 'main' show that evening as well. What a fonky jam.

Peace.

the Santana song was "Soul Sacrifice", which is often referred to as The Santana Medley when P does it. It's an instrumental jam from a LONG time ago, Santana's first album I think. There is an AMAZING version of Santana doing this song live in the Woodstock film from 1969. Check it out if you can. I think that film is out on DVD now.

Calhoun Sq,.. U got it! Those were my highlights too. I gained much respect for Rhonda as a slap bassist as she held down 777-9311 with Blackwell.

Beautiful Strange was a shock.. SOO amazing, just P and blackwell (and maybe larry) at first... searing guitar solo at the end. WOW. If you want to hear it, call NewPowerNorth's voicemail :p

Paisley Park is always a highlight for me... And then, THE JAM led by Larry Graham was hot! I don't know what got into Larry, but he was acting like Jimi a la Monterey Pop Festival, grinding against the speaker and shit. Perhaps P is finally rubbing off on Larry??? confused

yay! Eos

Oh, and he ALWAYS plays Soul Sacrifice when Sheila is there. But i agree again Calhoun.. where's the full version of LOVE BIZARRE??? Hopefully in Oaktown...

I saw this information posted on another thread about the "Santana Medley".

Yes, Prince does part of "Soul Sacrifice, but he also does parts of "Toussaint L' Overture", and bits of "Jungle Strut". They are on the 3rd Santana LP.

So it really is a "Santana Medley", if that is what we all call it. It incorporates bits of all the songs and really works well together if you are familiar with all the originals.

Good to see you also and good to be seen. Oh my, that was some weekend! After 12+ hours of music and 24 on my feet, I'm ready for the next one. (Maybe Vegas if he does it).
