Jill Scott Open Philly Show on 8-23-04. Too tired to type more, but NPCMC scored me with front row---very nice...

Oh my word.....damnit..and that was the show I wanted to go to..

HOLY SHIT!!! AWESOME!!

My friend called me Sunday night and told me that she had an extra ticket to the Philly show for Monday. I immediately said "yes!" So, we rented a car and went south to Philly. Jill Scott was amazing. The new stuff is really great, and she was SO EXCITED to be there - "This man (Prince) called ME.....ME!" Prince was astounding as usual. I saw one the NY shows and the Essence festival extravaganza, so I "thought" I pretty much knew the show. But when he kicked off the encore with THE BEAUTIFUL ONES, then NOTHING COMPARES 2 U (before heading into to PURPLE RAIN), I truly lost it! Also loved hearing WHEN WILL WE B PAID during the acoustic section.

Man it pays to be in the club....and a devoted Prince fan too

I like Jill on record...but she sucked the energy out of the crowd..she's not a musical performer.

Does anybody have a setlist for Jill's opener? There was a song I'd love to check out, but I didn't catch the name. Thanks!

The thought of hearing Ms. Scott sing "Golden" live gives me shivers.
Can't wait to get her new album.

Her new album came out today! For those seeking a cheap place to find it, Best Buy has it for $11.99 on sale. There are 17 songs on it and the disc is called "Beautifully Human." It's fantastic!!!

I can see how she can suck the energy out of a crowd. I watched her perform on TV and it felt as though I was at church (the long service, yawn!) and I don't even go to church. She can drag a song on and on!

I agree with you 150%. Jill Scott is THE REAL THING!!! One of the few performers with pure raw talent. Her new CD is OFF THE HOOK!!!!!

Maybe in YOUR section, but personally I was amazed at how much the majority of the crowd seemed to be into her show. When she did the new track, THE FACT IS, a song that nobody knew, the crowd vehemently responded to every truthful line. True, Scott is not an acrobatic performer. You're not going to see her cut flips and shake her ass, but she doesn't have to. That's not the kind of performer she is. But I thought she truly held her own, and Philly showed its girl lots of love.
