how i ALMOST got on stage.


well y'all, i gots to get it out.

i just got home and it was AMAZING. let me preface this whole story by saying my sister put way too much skyy in my soda, but i ain't mad at her.

we got to the wachovia center at almost exactly 7:30, so there was really no point in trying to find anyone (though i called jossy, hi!). we went to find our seats and they were excellent, we were right behind the drum set and fortunately i had an end seat, right where the band entered and exited but i'll get back to that.

y'all knew my mission, right? GET ONSTAGE. we were close to the soundboard so i strolled on over and chatted up the guys sitting behind it, just small talk b.s. and i met tony, who said he was the tour manager. so i cut to the chase right, how are the girls picked? and he said, "would you like to dance onstage?"

COME ON NOW WOULD I.

"yes" i replied, and he took my hand and walked me around the little wall and looked me up and down said, "oh, i can't let you. no jeans."

wtf? there's a dress code?

i said "but it's a concert! it's casual!" to which he replied "at this point, what most girls do when i tell them that is call up a friend and have them bring a dress".

"but i live an hour away!"

so i quickly eyed up my sister, who had on black pants and said, "look, if i get these on, can i?"

and tony said, "maybe".

cutting out the middleman let me just say that we ended up changing in a nasty men's stall because the woman's bathroom was JP. girlfriend is a size 5 and i am maybe, MAYBE a 6 on a good day but i made it happen.

at this point we ran back to our most excellent seats and the lights had dimmed, the band was starting to come out. they rolled prince inside the big black box out first, then the band walked by and i gave everyone low fives and the girls looked great. so tiny. i finally found tony again and showed him my pants and he asked where i was sitting, i saw him talk to the security guy and he flash lighted me up and down to show him who i was. dude got into some vehement convo (i don't know if it was too late or what...), BUT, i didn't get my wristband when all the hos got up during u got the look, i was like damn.

IT'S OK THOUGH.

the concert was magnifique. just beautiful and amazing, i'm still high.

OH YEAH! i was up on the screen during Adore, so if anyone saw the girl in the purple shirt with the purple sunglasses singing adore, that was me.

i swear to God prince did the longest "ooh-ooh-oohoohooh" ever during purple rain. or we did rather, and at the end i got choked up all of a sudden, and teary. it was like, wow. he was kinda choked up too. then my buddy tony comes over to me and asks if i was up onstage, and i said NO, and he was all "i told him to pick you! i would have picked you. did you enjoy the concert anyway?"

yes.

i low-fived everyone when they came off, and i tapped prince's black box as it rolled by. a-mazing.

so funny. well, i couldn't smell him through the trunk, but he looked grand. the last outfit was stellar, half red, half royal blue, and that purple gleaming symbol guitar. he was CLEAN. i keep remembering bits and pieces now.

he was beat boxing! and he was good! if you told me prince would be beat boxing while playing acoustic guitar i would have called you crazy.

i wish i had tickets for tonight and tomorrow night.
