Boston 8/17 teaser (more to come) Just got home. The show kicked major ass, but with only one encore (Purple Rain) and a slip-up during Let's Work, when Prince called us "Minneapolis", followed by a "Oooooh".
The show was still 2 hrs. 45 mins in length, though, including Black Sweat, Prince And The Band and The Rules ("Officer, Officer") (?) in the acoustic section... ...and, a song I've never heard of him performing before... (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction - during the acoustic section - the biggest sing-along of the night. Has he ever done this song before? I don't think so (and I know my shows, as I told my wife). I think Prince was kidding when he shouted MPLS. ( or maybe he has been listening to too many bootlegs!)
What was most surprising about the set list was the lack of slow jams - no "Adore" or "Call my Name." His only slow songs were "Shhh" and "Sweet Thing," in which the audience sang most of the lyrics (which can kill the mood a little bit). Other than not performing "Adore," I could not have been more pleased by the show. Any performance that includes "Pop Life" is an A in my book. I even enjoyed listening to the Prince loop that was playing while we waited for the show to start (and hour and a half late). Songs performed that were not part of the general set list postings that I have seen: "Love Bizarre" "What a Wonderful World" "Satisfaction" "Whole Lotta Love" and "Sweet Thing." The NPG is absolutely AWESOME. Candy plays a much bigger role in this tour than she did during the One Night Alone Tour, which is good because she is both talented and full of energy. Watching her bounce across the stage, full of joy and completely in the moment, reminds me of what this thing is all about. And Rhonda, if you want to get married, just give me a call. Finally, I can't believe that the guy in the purple jumpsuit made it the stage. However, he did a great job up there, holding his own with all the lovely ladies, and a very good dancer. Well done, guy in the purple jumpsuit! Can't wait to see tonight's show. | |

Because the crowd was so into it, like his hometown crowd, he called Boston, MPLS. He was giving ya'll props.
