PRINCE'S HOUSTON SHOW

WOW...What a great time I had at tonite's show...THIS IS MY F I R S T review of a Prince show, so bear with me as I am half asleep as I type this.
I took my 15 y/o daughter to the show with me, her first time seeing Prince and I know now it won't be her LAST. We arrived around 7:45p and got our tickets from the WILL CALL..section D seats 11 and 12. Turned out to be great seats as Prince seemed to favor our side of the stage more..we were sitting behind Chance. We were dressed in purple wigs, black lacey shirts, jeans 4 me and a short jean skirt and boots 4 my daughter..we got compliments on our ensemble and a lotta of Y'ALL ROCKIN THAT PURPLE HAIR!
YEA IT WAS COOL.
NOW 4 THE SHOW:
Pretty much the same set list with a few exceptions as he played
poplife
let's work
adore (acoustic)
prince and the band (acoustic)
the rules/sleep on the couch (acoustic)
i wanna b your lover
the band was tight... and he did stop for a brief moment to say"RICK JAMES REST IN PEACE 2times, then he continued on...the show was great, and HOUSTON SHOWED HIM LOVE TO THE MAX..we stood up pretty much 4 the entire show...he changed 4 times..started out in the camel brown colored long/short jacket with white shirt and pants..and the platform shoes he wore most of the show except 4 the acoustic set where he wore the boots/heels
he wore a white shirt with scroll type designs and white pants, then changed to a white suit jacket with pants with tassels hanging from pants/sleeves and back of jacket, he wore a royal blue suit like the white one to close the show.
I was really hoping he would perform CALL MY NAME...but alas he didn't sad .
Still it was great and the best part of the whole evening is that my daughter has new found respect for Prince and his band and real music by real musicians. She is now a new tru funk soilder!!!
Sorry if this is short..I am so damn tired..but hey all in all a good time was had by all...nite y'all.
feel better, feel good, feel wonderful

Thanks for the review! My brother and his wife were at this show - I'm getting ready to call them and find out how it was. My wife and I will be at tonight's show and I'll try and get some kind of review posted.

I am glad you had a great time I remember back in the late 80's I took my sister who was a non-princester and after she saw his performance, she bragged about it more than me!!!!Ya see you have to take people to see him perform in person to make them believe that he is truly a great musician and it is good to see that he still has it going on....but I still wish he would come back to the BIG NYC at least one more time.....!!!!! biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin

EXCELLENT SHOW LAST NIGHT!

typical set with exception to an extended instr. jam tribute to rick james (based on 'give it to me baby'). this was incorporated into the 'controversy' jam...

he changed clothes 3 times. he also sang some of 'love bizzare', did a 'too short' bass solo (but i'll take it), and did a full 'pop life'...

the accoustic set was VERY long, and coulda kept on goin' as far as i'm concerned. incl. were:
*not in any particular order, but close*
little red corvette- half
i wanna be your lover- full
adore- half
alphabet st.- full (w/bev hillbillies)
prince and the band- full
cream- full
raspberry beret- most
the rules- full
on the couch- full
7- full

the energy was OFF-THE-HOOK. he had serious attitude and was very playful with the crowd. any tech problems that MAY have happened were not evident and P and the Band were very professional and just plain fun...

all i can say is thanks to the club for my 3rd row center by rhonda and candy, thanks to the npg for a gutsy performance, and of course, thanks to prince for goin' the extra mile, especially on a difficult day for all funk fans with the loss of rick james. you show him and us MUCH LOVE...

Peace, and keep it on the 1,

peterv

this was my first prince show too, and i gotta say, NOTHING i have seen before has even come close to the all-around (and i hate to use this word) AMAZINGNESS!!!!! of this event!!! it was one of those shows where just when you thought it couldnt get any better, IT DID!!! over and over again. from the second i heard the words "dearly beloved" and he launched into the whole pruple rain thing, to the first strains of "little red corvette" in his absolutely breathtaking acoustic set ("this aint no lipstick show!") to his sense of humor, his style, his moves, his .....AURA, if you will.....it was just spellbinding. but i have to say, the absolute highlight of quite possibly my life, was when he came out and did "the beautiful ones" at the beginning of his encore. i had already been losing my mind for the past two and a half hours, but when he threw himself down on the stage in the smoke in that suit and started screaming the "baby baby baby...." and then did the signature one handed push-up stance pose.....i tell you, those screaming girls on all the old beatles footage had nothing on me! that is my all time favorite prince song and i never dreamed he'd do it, so to say i was hysterical would be a vast understatement. and then he burned the toyota center TO THE GROUND, Y'ALL!!! with "purple rain".....just incredible! i may never get over this.....and unfortunately for every band i see from here on out, they have THIS to attempt to compare to.....
