I was down in the basement playing with toys when my older brother, a big Beatles fan, told me that they had just announced it on Monday Night Football that Lennon was dead.

Tupak? I didn't care less.

Elvis? Too young to remember.

Princess Diana....

I remember her death well, because I was in the old Holy River chatroom, and buzz started circulating about she got into a car accident. All I thought was "Damn! Now all the tv networks are going to be airing breaking news over all the shows I like." I had a TV on behind me and sure enough, about 30 minutes after the buzz at the holy river, all the networks started speculating and mourning and replaying the same footage a million times.

I was camping up in northern Wisconsin with my wife and a bunch of her relatives, and someone finally flipped on a TV in the cabin and they had it all over the news. This is the same way I heard about Walter Matthau's death, too.

Anxiety

I was working as a waiter when I overheard on the news at the bar that Kurt Cobain was found dead. Fortunately it was at the end of my shift, because all I wanted to do was go home. I didn't hear the details, but I knew what had happened. When I learned the news later that night after I got home, what I had suspected was right. It wasn't much to guess. The next day I was glued to MTV, in shock the whole day. I think Cobain was the first famous person I'd ever been a fan of who died in my lifetime, while I was a fan. It was a weird little period of time in my memory.

i cried when tupac died.

i had a dream one night just before he passed that i needed to reach out to him (he was in the hospital).

i don't think anyone really thought he would die, because he had been shot before.

i was sitting on my couch in the living room and the news broke on tv and i started bawling.

he got such a bad rap after that in the papers - gangsta rap and all that - i wrote to my local newspaper supporting him and i wrote a letter to VIBE magazine that they published. i was really affected.

he was such a spark, such a strong life force. so sad it was quieted.

Space Shuttle Challenger crew. I was waiting for my high school gym class to be over when the football coach came over to the teacher and told her that Challenger exploded upon take off.

Space Shuttle Columbia crew. It was the day of one of my annual Trek parties, and before people showed up I was just checking the forums at another website when one very recent post said to immediately turn on the TV, and there I saw the trail through the sky.

I was in elementary school when Marvin Gaye was killed. I remember hearing it on tv.
I was surfing the net when I read a post on a message board that Lisa Lopes died in a car crash.

I was watching MTV when I heard about Aaliyah being killed in a plane crash.

I remember exactly where I was when I heard that John was dead. I was sitting in my bedroom and it came on the news. I was so sad and couldn't believe it. I started to cry as I am a big fan of his. I also know where I was when Elvis died. I was in Nova Scotia on a family holiday. This was also very sad news. As far as Tupac goes, I was never really a fan, so I don't recall the day. I respect the fact that he has many fans and is very popular in his genre of music, but the "thug life" doesn't appeal to me, so therefore, neither does the music. If you had've asked if I remember the day that Marvin Gaye died, I remember that also. I couldn't believe that his own wacky father shot him. What a waste. Marvin was a true talent, that's for sure.

i wasn't born when elvis died (i think)

i was less than a year when lennon died.

i remember hearing about kobain while i was sitting in McD's, though i'm not a fan of his.

i don't remember tupac's death, not a fan.

but i remember princess diana's very vividly. i was at work, in the lobby of a hotel, watching tv. i saw the bit about the accident, and remember thinking, "gosh i hope she's gonna be ok. she's such a cool lady, i hope she doesn't die." a few minutes later it was announced. i went home and told my mom and she almost cried. she remembers watching her wedding. i was truly saddened by her death, and i think most the world was too. sad
