Usually, I've found it's due to insecurities and fear...a need for constant reassurance that what they're feeling from you really is as beautiful as it seems. Sometimes, though, it's simply a matter of control...

Yeah. One of the worst reasons you can get married, imho. The biggest way you can think of to say, "I love you". . .well, loving somebody is not enough for a good lifelong relationship. Not even close.
