There was "The Dude Fire" in the exact place I was in... Payson, Az., back in 1990. Incredible it is to see new growth and development in vegetation... true, new growth cannot exist... with certain devasting occurrences in nature.

One time while driving on my photo route, I had to drive thru the Angeles Forest...and as I drove on this winding road, I suddenly saw acres and acres of blackened trees...I had been told that some of these trees were the way they were because of the recent wild fires...I couldn't believe that something so destructive to the natural beauty of nature could result in something equally as mesmerizing to look at. Each tree looked like a black sculpture against a sea of living green...as if it was purposefully done...






I stopped my car, and got out to get a closer look...I leaned in to smell the bark, and caught the scent of charcoal and burnt wood as I did...then I stepped back, and took the photos above....
