City Of God

If there's been a thread on this already, oh well...lol

But, has anyone seen this movie??

Just saw it last night...Incredible!! nod

Not only is it exhilerating like a great Tarantino film, but you actually get a very real sense of seeing someone become a true photographer right in front of your eyes...

Oh man! This is a powerful movie.... so authentic,

made with largely a cast of real Brazilian street kids and ametuer actors.

Fantastic stuff thumbs up!

You can go here to see the trailer, and even watch the first 8 minutes of the film..

http://www.ifilm.com/ifil...il/2453821

I watched the first 8 minutes and was hooked...I wanted to see what else happened, what the story was going to end up being. Knowing that it's based on real events (true story) just made it more intriguing to me...and the film just gets better as it goes along.

City of God was a good movie... didn't it come out in 2002? Saw it a while ago. Didn't think it was THAT great... but it gives you a good look at how dangerous inner city life is (still) in Rio. The new Almodovar movie... (La Mala Educacion) is just "wow"... I love that man! A movie done in a similar vein, but aesthetically much different is "Our Lady of the Assassins" about the streets of Medellin (Colombia). Great movie but unless you're from Colombia you can't understand lots of the Spanish --too much slang-- so you gotta read it in English.
Change it one more time..

I just read a quick review of La Mala Educacion...I think I'll have to settle in one empty evening with a few beers and allow myself to see if I can follow it..lol..it sounded like it might be a little more confusing, but still excellent.

City of God is a great and very disturbing film. It was terrible to see all those children
being murdered by other children.

Very disturbing, yes...I think 90% of everyone involved in the drug trafficking and crime was under 21...it was sometimes more disturbing to see kids with guns in their hands so casually than it was seeing them using those guns.

Yeah... its confusing... but worth every second of it. And pretty much all of Almodovars films are confusing... I left the theatre in France with my jaw dropped in silence.
Change it one more time..

Alright, I just saw it, and liked it alot! But I noticed something when I was looking at the cover of the DVD...in the bottom pic, they edited out the guns in the photo (on the cover)...why would they do that? It bugs me.

I wonder why they did that, though??...My mind's eye just filled in the guns, I didn't even notice they weren't actually there... eek
