Well, met up with a big group of friends tonight at the beach....to do a little Shark Fishing at night. It was a lot of fun!

First we had to get there before the sun fell, to fish for our bait...

Then once we had enough bait...it was time to setup the Shark Poles. We put long pieces of PVC Pipe (5 of them total), in the sand...and then put the poles inside them. Walked the bait out into the water about 15-20 feet....and then we just wait for a bite.


We got our first one pretty fast, but he was too small....so we put him back into the water



Not too long after that, we got another bite. This one was a bit bigger, and put up a fight. Finally got him on shore...and decided to keep him (to eat of course...YUM! ) He was pissed, was floppin' all over the place!




Since we're gonna eat him, we gotta get rid of all the insides. Cut 'em open, and get rid of all the guts!



Then, ya gotta take the head off! One of the girls wanted a shark tooth, but we decided to give her the whole jaw, so we cut it out for her, to take home and boil.


After it's all done, you've got a pretty big hunk of meat...MmmmmMmmm! Yum!

It's cool...yeah, I know it does seem kinda mean. But it's over pretty quick, and I doubt they feel any pain. We threw the smaller one back...and only kept the one. It's actually really good meat!

Me being a Vegetarian in eating habits... I do find this thread and moment to be far more humane.

I hesitated to look, but being a Pisces in sign and love for water habitat... well I just had to look. I was drawn...

The pictures are amazingly beautiful of the ocean... well, I actually appreciated the process and order in which the night seemingly unfolded in event.

You see... I choose to be Vegetarian for the reason that society has this seemingly selfish demand in items that are not necessarily "needed". The demand is astonishly overwhelming and I know I do not even have the slightest idea to what exactly these demands truly are... (in actual number). Although... in viewing your thread... I do find far more peace in visually seeing (in picture form) the approach you took in this event. You caught one shark, in which you claim to have eaten (and I do believe)... you are not a corporation or system in which are out there deriving vast numbers of sea life, endangering other species or... leaving careless particles such as unused fishing nets in which other sealife creatures are entrapped within... (many of you know the realities that exist). Anyways.. if more people were more in support of moderate living... and not so much for the $$$$$... well you know...

I find your moment to be somewhat enlightening... in that you approached in a more humane manner... and chose not to eat a hamburger (no offense please)... but it's true. Raising your own livestock and eating what only you "need" in moderation is far more sensible to me...

Go Organic when possible I say..., preferrably from you own backyard...

And I'm glad that my pics, and experience could shed some light your way. Yes, we're not a corporation out for profit (or endangering the species), we just go fishing every once in a while, to catch some good shark to eat. It is really good...and you can't beat how fresh it is. We did catch the first one, but put it back....it was not big enough to be worth keeping for food. We also, while fishing for bait caught a REALLY big Snook (a trout like fish), but we threw it back too. We only kept, and killed the one shark...that was big enough to eat. So see....we're not total animals.

Is this legal? Or is that why you did it at night?

I like how you contrasted the shark carnage with the seascapes. The shark looks a bit ghostly with that lighting. The series has a bit of a bizzare, errie atmosphere. Cool stuff, thanks for sharing!
