The lines and traffic in Simi Valley for mourners to view his body and pay respects was incredible...he was most definitely an extremely loved man and respected President by a lot of people...there was much about him I disagreed with, but I respected the hell out of him for many reasons.

Whatever you think/thought of his policies or political views, it does not rob him of his humanity, nor make him undeserving of respect in his passing. rose

Yeah, but you don't go to a funeral and start yelling about what an asshole the man was.

you haven't been to some of the funerals I've attended. wink

and why do ppl think you automatically deserve respect because you die.....I'll take this back to the p&r forum.

You deserve respect because you're human...because your soul comes from God.

Death is the last chance we're given to show that respect to someone, to take the higher road and say, if nothing else, you were a human being... rose

God never said I have to respect the dead because they were human. Respect is earned and for some, this isn't a man that earned the respect that some think he should be given.

I know on many threads, I've said "RIP" and I know the family is mourning the loss of a loved one but that's it. Why does he deserve more?

Big up to Reagan for leaving a hella mark.....lawdy.

Nothing wrong with showing respect for God's creation...is there?

And the type of respect you show at someone's passing is different than the respect you show towards someone who's still alive. In the case of the latter, it's showing respect to what they've accomplised, what they've done...in the case of the former, you simply show respect for that common denominator that links us all: being human, having a soul, being of and from God.

It's not hard. rose

I think there's a difference in "showing respect" and ppl feeling like if you don't say wonderful things then you are somehow being "disrespectful". A man's life doesn't change because he's dead. If I view Reagan's life as crap, why do I then have to acknowledge him because he's dead.

I understand you basic point but I think this "get ya flags and out and have a parade" thing is a bit much.

I feel more for his family. Loss hurts at any point.

Oh, I agree...never said or thought that the only way to show respect in death is to heap glowing praise on them. Sometimes respect takes the form of simply remaining quiet when normally you'd speak out...

I think your "RIP old dude" was actually respectful.. smile

Why do you think it's about conforming people? No one has to say anything.

i spent the early afternoon watching the funeral, and i was affected much differently than i thought i would be.

the solemness and dignity of a funeral draws me in somehow, and i was reminded of how many relatives i've stood on those church steps for recently.

reagan was president during what i consider my formative years, from age 10 to age 18. i was whisked back in a way, seeing ronnie jr. and crazy patty and his other children, and mama nancy. it was a familiarity. i felt sad and my eyes welled up, i felt like i was part of the procession in a way. i was only missing my black dress and heels. i thought the eulogies were beautiful and fitting. i must say he was a very charismatic man, he lived a full life, but i know it's still hard to say goodbye (in the family's case) to someone you love.

the rain is entirely appropriate.

R.I.P., Ronald Reagan.

Even if you don't wanna respect what Reagan did while in office, you can still acknowledge the rest of his life. He was a great husband and father, he entertained through radio and film, and as a lifeguard he saved 0ver 70 lives. Those are just a few examples.

So maybe some of you can set aside your political bias and respect the rest of his life.

One thing that I've realized throughout this week is the incredible love that Nancy and Ronnie shared...it's just heartbreaking to see her...the tender pats...and kisses that she gives to the coffin...how she talks to her husband...it's almost like she's reassuring him. I cry every time I see her. She's such a lady...I'm worried to see what's going to happen to her after all of this. My heart goes out to her heart

I hope she gets through it. A lot of times when a couple is really close and one dies at that age, the other goes soon after.

I also hope she hasn't been exposed to all the nasty bitter hatred that some people have been expressing for Reagan lately.

Some ppl aren't better off because of Reagan EWM. You really are seeing this man through rose colored glasses.

What I think you're having problems with is that ppl don't believe in kissing this man's ass simply because he is dead. If I don't agree with you, then I don't need to singing the praise of a man that I personally cared only for white, heterosexual, rich ppl.

I've thought about that too...she's such a little, frail lady...carrying SUCH a burden of grief. You really don't see love like that much anymore. As long as she can keep herself busy and her family is around her she'll get through it.

There was no real negativety until you started it yourself with the follwing post:

"We'd just like to have ONE THREAD that shows respect for him instead of disrespect. I created one in the P&R so the Reagan haters can go all out if they choose.

As far as the outside world goes, it's just kinda tacky to spew all this anti-Reagan bile for everyone to see and hear during a time when a lot of people are saddened by the loss."

That was entirely off topc, because this thread was meant to pay respect to Reagan, however you have turned it into a thread about Reagan-haters right away. This thread could have been fine, but you have invited everyone to your party with your constant bitching.
