Birthday Party Ideas

My daughter is turning six on the Fourth of July and each year, no matter what I do, it ends up looking like someone vomited red, white and blue all over the house because of all of the wrapping paper and cutesy little Fourth of July things that people bring for her, which then turns everyone into "party mode"... but not "Birthday Party Mode".

Any ideas for a fun party for a little girl who really wants it to be "her" day and not be bombarded with red, white and blue. (Last year I asked people to not wrap things or bring her anything related to the Fourth of July, yet, they can't seem to help themselves and she sat there sort of disappointed).

My son has a similar problem. He was born on Christmas Eve, so he has the Christmas Tree and wintery, snowy items to compete with... he's got a kabillion of those snow globes, and yes... they were given as birthday gifts. sad

Pick a theme!! Any theme and make sure all the parents are darn well aware of the theme. What are her hobbies? What does she like? It could be simple, like rainbows, or commercial, like Sponge Bob, or whatever.

I did that last year, because she was going with her dad on the weekend of... and it really doesn't matter when I have it... people associate her birthday with those three stinkin' colors.

To me, it really isn't a big deal, but as she's gotten older she wants it to be about her and "pretty-girly" things and not about flags and fireworks sticking out of her birthday cake (yep... people bring those and say... "Oh, LOOOK! I found the cutest thing to put on her cake!

I think it hit her the hardest this year, because she was in school and went to quite a few birthday parties of her classmates and saw a huge difference in them. Instead of red, white and blue everywhere there was Barbie, flowers, Diva Dolls, etc...

So, I sort of need ideas to overpower those that still wish to bring everything in those wonderful colors.

Yes... that is another good idea, like StarKitty's... we did a theme last year (faeries and butterflies) and it seems that many parents can't seem to fight the power of the red, white and blue.

Perhaps if I do it prior to her birthday, the weekend before... and choose another theme this year... and ask again that we try and stay away from the other, and explain why I am asking... beg and plead if I have to... maybe I can pull it off.

You know... my cousin's wife just went back to being a JW... her parents had to disown her when she left and she didn't talk to them for four years. Well, anyway, she went back because her and my cousin had kids and she wanted "family" back. Sooo... she says she is not turning the kids into JW, BUT... how's that gonna work? My cousin's son, from another mother, his birthday was a month ago and people sent cards to their house. She threw them in the trash without opening them!!!!

I don't think they'll be married much longer.

But, yeah... that would solve my problem, eh?

I don't like having to be clear with people. Wanna call them for me?

I'm surprised that you haven't shrunk down your tractor picture and placed it there.

Have a "Pink Party" everyone should be instructed to wear and/or bring something pink. Your invites, envelopes and decorations should be pink to stress the color.
BEAUTIFUL, LOVED AND BLESSED"

If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it!!

I may just try this. This is something that I haven't done before, and perhaps if they are thinking in "color" and not "theme", they won't be as easily led astray.

Thank you!
