Excuse you? neutral Either learn what that word means, or GTFOOHWTS.

lol

Is that an acronym?

Oh, and here's the definition of "trolling" for those who have forgotten...

"The content of a "troll" posting generally falls into several areas. It may consist of an apparently foolish contradiction of common knowledge, a deliberately offensive insult to the readers of a newsgroup, or a broad request for trivial follow-up postings. "

Now...when you see that the Kimmel quote upset several people on this thread and you post a comment like the one you did...that's OBVIOUS trolling... please...

Supernova isn't trolling. you just have to understand that Laker fans and Piston haters, have rationalized this series by complaining about unfair officiating being the reason why the Pistons were winning. but with game five being evenly called and the Lakers still got their asses kicked, they have nothing to complain about, since it was blatantly obvious that the Pistons were the SUPERIOR team, not just better. so they have to turn their frustration elsewhere. why not now make fun of Detroit fans.

Laker fans are the biggest whiners in sports. Malone was hurt before the series started, so was Fisher, and Payton was a scub all year, and despite that they still claimed that the Lakers couldn't lose. now that they have, they are using those as excuses when they were originally not even concerns. if the Lakers were good enough to beat Detroit with an injured Malone, and injured Malone couldn't be the reason why they lost either.

and officiating. please. the Lakers got more fouls three years ago against the 76's, and the sixers were still in every game, unlike the Lakers this year. but, of course, officiating is only bad when it goes against the Lakers. when it is horrid but for the Lakers, it is fair. oh the hypocrisy.

even by the end of the series Phil Jackson knew he won 9 championships on the back of very favorable calls for MJ, Kobe and Shaq, and had no room to complain about this series.
this message brought to you by logic.

Don't overgeneralize. There are many Laker fans like me (20 years, since McHale cheapshotted Rambis) that believe Detroit won fair and square. Even a healthy Malone may have resulted in an extension of this series by one game, but in hindsight, things would not have changed. The Pistons are the superior team. LA ran out of heart, out of options and out of gas.

Good points.

The Lakers have been able to overcome not getting as many FTAs as their opponents before. There may have been bad officiating in spots, but the discrepancy was due to the Pistons working the ball and taking it to the hole, while the Lakers stood around and went too hard after the big 3-pointer that was gonna bail them out. As I said twice before in this thread, FTs and officiating is no excuse.

even by the end of the series Phil Jackson knew he won 9 championships on the back of very favorable calls for MJ, Kobe and Shaq, and had no room to complain about this series.

Not so sure I'd completely agree with you there. But PJ knew when he was beat. His team was old, injured, slow, and splintered 3 games into this series. Payton gave them nothing, Malone was hurt, the bench was ineffective, Shaq couldn't put two big games together, and Kobe sabotaged the offense. A lot of that had to do with Detroit, but Phil knew what was coming.

Quite frankly, I am grateful Detroit has dismantled this team. Maybe a rebuilding will allow LA to cast off the bad seeds and enter the 21st century, where teams, not superstars, can win titles.

Congrats, Detroit.

Here's a quarter to buy yourself a clue. Show me once where I've complained about the officiating. Just ONCE. Or continue to lose credibility by resorting to outright lies that make you look bad. Pick your poison.

Yeah, that's what I thought.

You know, it might have been easier for me to swallow . . . in hindsight. the T-Wolves would have taken the Pistons to six at least!

If the Lakers were taking the ball to the hole instead of honing their masonry skills...
If the Lakers were playing defense with their feet instead of their hands...
If Kobe understood that the route to another championship was through "The Daddy"...
If Phil would drop the apparant catatonic coaching style like he has the triangle...

This has now become myth.
What does SG mean?
Who are the Lakers point guards?
Who has the most assists to Shaq this season? (hint, it's none of the point guards whose main job is to feed "the daddy.")
Since last season, Shaq has never brought it in every game, and cannot do what he once did. He's constantly missing chippies.
He habitually stands flat-footed in the paint while rebounds are to be had.
Even the hobbled Karl Malone outrebounded Shaq in one game in this Finals series.
Even Slava Medvedenko matched Shaq's rebound total in one game in this Finals series.
His free throw shooting is the worst it's been since his first season as a Laker.
His scoring average is about 10 points less than it was previously in the Finals.
Bottom line is that although he's still the best at his position, Shaq is not nearly what he once was. People who watch him game in and game out realize this.

The way this current (past?) Laker team is built, Shaq has got to be the 1st option on offense for the very points you've outlined.
~ At 7-1, 340(?)lbs...he doesn't rebound enough. On offense or defense.

Shaq can't keep up with a running offense, so you're left with playing a half-court game.
All this being the case, you've gotta go to him for hopefully 1 of 2 outcomes:
1- an easy slam-dunk
2- he'll draw a double/triple team and will throw it out to an open man who'll knock down the J.
(The percentages say a slam trumps a 15-20 foot jumper anytime.)

If not, what is he out there for? The NBA's largest and most expensive pick?
And you can't sit $90 million worth of diesel on the bench. (highly flammable ) mad

In any case, it will be interesting to see what next year's edition of the Lakers will look like.

Eh? Say what? lol I didn't say he should be benched. I'm saying that although he's still the best at his position he's not nearly the player he was even two years ago.

He's lost explosiveness.
He misses easy layups.
He's not aggressive game in and game out.
He takes his position for granted by showing up overweight and out of shape (not this season, but last season).
He's become lazy when it comes to his off-season conditioning - stating he'll recover from surgery "on company time," meaning during the season like he did last year after missing the first 13 games.

And there have been times he even skips practice. Sure, he's the first option if he shows he wants to keep himself in shape and bring it EVERY game, instead of a game or two out of 5. That team is built around Shaq. But you can't rely on him to be the Shaq of old forever for those reasons. They have to re-tool with another coach. At the still young age of 32 he's on the downside of his career.

Quite simply his work ethic sux out loud, and he doesn't have a love of the game anymore. It seems like he only wants to play defense when he's scoring points. He'd rather score than to prioritize his game to defense and rebounding first and foremost. This is something even Wilt Chamberlain did once he wasn't the offensive weapon he once was.

And if you check out his (Shaq's) stats after playing every other day you'll see the drop-off in production.

We're on the same page concerning Shaq's work ethic. I too believe Shaq is past his prime.
I'm out here and watch most of the games.

My point was that this PAST season, Phil had no other choice.
The "diesel on the bench" comment was not based on anything you said but was used to illustrate Phil's no immediate alternative laden predicament.

Btw, the "take it all for granted" attitude is not isolated to O'Neal.
This shameful mindset is shared by too many modern day athletes.
In that regard, there's a parallel with today's dearth of marginally talented (if that) music biz stuporstars.

He can't shoot free throws.
It's stunning how many NBA "professionals" lack what one would consider such a fundamental skill.
(and don't appear to even make an attempt to improve).

He'd rather score than to prioritize his game to defense and rebounding first and foremost. This is something even Wilt Chamberlain did once he wasn't the offensive weapon he once was.

This is something that Bill Russell did as the PRIMARY OBJECTIVE from day one.
He ended up with 11 championships in 13 seasons. What more incentive should you need?
Ben Wallace might have a clue. We'll see.

Yeah, i'm a diehard Laker hater but I respect them when they have good teams.
I grew up on the east coast being a Celtic fan during the Russell era so the LakerHate is genetic.
From what I understand, there's no cure. wink

In closing, I just heard one of the many late night tv talk show Laker jokes on Craig Kilborn.
"In a final desparate attempt to get a ring, Karl Malone and Gary Peyton tried to sign with the Detroit Pistons during halftime."

Yeah, but 11 titles in 13 seasons won't happen again in any sport. Too many things have changed about both sports and the business of sports to have that type of run again. As far as Russell's primary objective (defense and rebounds): scoring is where the glamor is now. D&R is dirty work, it won't get you on ESPN highlights, and that's where most young/immature players' objectives lie. Although it's essential for any team to win consistently, which is why Detroit won this season.

It's natural. biggrin A by-product of a winning tradition.

lol I've heard that one. But Joe Dumars has yet to prove he's wacky, and he knows both Payton and Malone are on their last legs.
