My friend John and I had a slightly strange habit a little past high school. It was born out of being natural night owls, bored and broke. We used to go to White Castle way past bed time and get one big coffee to go. We'd share the coffee and visit local cemetarys. It was quiet, free and we loved to look at the grave stones. There were a few that we actually took rubbings of the front of. If we took a rubbing, we'd always leave a little something at the grave, like burning incense, or a little plastic toy (usually from the Perkins wishing well) and we'd make up stories about some of the people. We had a rather fondness for one old lady in partiucular who we called Nettie and everytime we went to the cemetary she was at we'd visit her first before venturing around the rest of the place.

Ok, so I admitted it was a little strange.

Someone once told me that they liked to go to cemeteries at night because they were peaceful. I thought that was strange, and a bit creepy, but then they said "Think about it, a cemetery is the safest place to be at night, would you fuck with someone who was voluntarily in a cemetery that time of day?" hmm

I guess they had a point but, I still think cemeterys are creepy.

i love cemeteries, but i stay away from them at night. the are very peaceful and i like to look at the different headstones. it's especially interesting if you go to an old cemetery and can see how the headstone styles have changed throughout the years. There was one like that near my house growing up. Another really awesome cemetery to visit is the one in rochester, NY where fredrick douglass, susan b. anthony, and nathaniel rochester are buried.

In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular.
