no! razz

we ain't talking about a prince download here, we're talking about social politics and the media here, mmkay? this is the kind of thing that only evolves when enough people "bitch". so shut the fuck up about telling people to shut the fuck up, cuz it's just gonna make whinging whining bitching complainers like ME screech even louder!

in fact, you know what, i take it back...keep telling folks to be quiet. it's very motivating. wink

I just meant that it's no different than Lifetime or BET or any other niche channel. I don't like any of them, they're all demeaning in their own way IMO. I just don't see why some people are treating the new gay channel as if it's any different, because it isn't.

Personally - I'll take it! booty! tease

Don't get me wrong, 'nana. I'm happy to see the LGBT "community" commanding some attention these days, I'm just a bit apprehensive about how this will come off... for all the reasons others here have mentioned.

I don't fit most of the sterotypes about gays being bought and sold today, and I know a significant, albeit quiet and less sensational, cache of people who also don't. Given what we've already seen in so-called progressive shows like "QAF," "Will & Grace," etc. (and I'm not saying I hate all of these shows), I just have little faith that we'll be depicted in an any more comprehensive and less exploitative light that we already are... not yet, anyway.

And I won't even mention gay people of color being left virtually invisible amid all this, aside from fleeting images of loud-mouth ethnic ballroom queens and screwed-in-the-head brothas cheating on their female partners on the down-low. shrug

Right? Until I watched Six Feet Under, I wasn't even sure there were gay black people!

(KIDDING...but if I lived in the sticks and had to get my information from TV, I might not be kidding at all.)

We don't need a gay channel.

I can see maybe if there was an outpouring from the LGBT community wanting this but all I see is MTV/Viacom wants to make a buck off us. It's bad enough that the shows on network televison sterotypes our community. Will Viacom come up with the programming? Will more Queer Eye-like shows pop up? Then they can keep it.

And oh, yeah: As a black woman, BET television sucks major ass.
