Recommend Your Favourite 'foreign language' Movies

Been renting from the World Cinema section in the video store in recent times and boy there's

some real gems in there! Here's some I've seen :

'DAH' (TEN) - Iranian cinema

'LAGAAN' (HARVEST TAX) - Indian cinema

'AMELIE' - French cinema

'DAYEREH' (CIRCLE) - Iranian cinema

Recommend and post your 'foreign' film choices thumbs up! Ta.

I was wondering where you were, senik!

I want to see The Blackboard, which is this Kurdish film about roving teachers in Iraq. smile

Other than that, Y Tu Mama Tambien was good, as is anything by Fellini. Can't think right now.

Has anyone seen Dead Man with Johnny Depp? That was great!

i kept meaning to see it when I was in Barcelona --
it was at a theater very near me. But my
Spanish isn't great, so I thought I'd wait
for subtitles.

CAN'T WAIT FOR it to get HERE!!!

It's hilarious that Canadian movies are often placed in the "Foreign" section of the video store here in Canada (even the non-french-canadian ones). You can even see that in Vancouver where the film industry is very strong...

So for fun I'm going to mention some of my favourite Canadian movies (so far):

The Sweet Hereafter
The Adjuster
Nobody Waved Goodbye
Hardcore Logo
Léolo
Crash
Cube
Les Invasions Barbares

Nice one you guys.

I've seen the mexican 'Y Tu Mama Tambien' and the German 'Run,Lola Run!' was on telly a

while back last year. I liked them nod

Seen 'Cinema Paradiso' too, what a little charmer of a film that was aswell.

Saw Almodovar's 'Hable Con Elle' (Talk To Her) in the pictures, but I had to get it on video to

appriciate it better due to my foo'kin' peeps in the cinema who wouldn't keep their cake holes

shut coz they were gettin' bored! neutral

If any of you get the chance and if you aint actually seen it... check this bit of

Brazilian class out (done with mainly ameteur kid actors I was told too) :

'CIDADE DE DEUS' (CITY OF GOD)

thumbs up!

If you like that then try and catch 'My Favourite Concubine'. It's a little old so I don't know how

accessible it is but it's a nice movie.

'Chungking Express' is also cool.... It has a great line in it that I remember...

so there's less tears to cry...."

wave i've seen that city of god. i thought it was good but i didnt like the last half hour or so.
Monsoon wedding is also a good one. humour, sadness, issues, wedding time tensions, it covers things well. she is a good director but i forgot her name.

you seem to like iranian films alot. are you iranian?

Sedmikrasky ('Daisies' in English), 1966, is a Czech film. One of the best movies I've ever seen in my life, hands down!

'Two teenage girls, both named Marie, decide that since the world is spoiled they will be spoiled as well; accordingly they embark on a series of destructive pranks in which they consume and destroy the world about them. This freewheeling, madcap feminist farce was immediately banned by the government.'
