All signs get a bad rap for having some specific malady or trait. Scorpios are no exception. Infamous for their insatiable sex drive and odd obsessions, Scorpios won't argue with your judgments because they question their own composition with microscopic precision. In every family dynamic (referencing the Zodiac as a big family) there is a tendency to identify a 'problem person'. Often this is the one with the most obvious affliction. The alcoholic Dad, the rebellious child, the depressed Mother or the bitter Grandparent are but of few of the obvious targets. To the unsuspicious eye, they do indeed look like THE problem. As a result, the discovery that Billy's drug use is really an unconscious attempt to expose Dad's relentless pressure on the whole family means that now the real problem can be dealt with. In our 'little' zodiac family, Scorpio's are the 'problem child'. It's not that they are better or worse than any other sign, it's that they are more often the target of our fears than the other family members. Mention that someone is a Scorpio and watch the observer's mind flood itself with images of secret perversions. It's similar to what most people do by thinking of Leos as narcissists or Virgos as obsessive compulsives. Our rational mind knows these are stereotypes but they remain very prevalent ideas in our collective minds.

Whatever trait we don't want to accept in ourselves gets placed on the sign that represents that trait. Scorpios are sensitive to fear and are more willing to wrestle with it than any other sign. That means that we are more likely to place our fears onto them, judging them as 'looking for trouble' or 'too dark' because we don't want to own those things in ourselves.
