My NYC weekend and job interviews

Okay, so it's taken me about a week to get around to posting this because i've been so tired and busy with school issues.

I left for new york on staurday after work but since things at work were crazy I ended up getting to my bus late and missing it. I wouldn't have missed the bus if it wasn't for the fact that there are, like, 5 Chinatown buses and I thought that there was only one. So at first I was in line for the wrong one and ended up having to take anyother one, etc. In anycase, I left Boston in a fit of agitation and ended up getting to NYC around 8:45pm. My friends were worried as hell but eventually we met up and had a great time Staurday night.

Then on Sunday I met up with family and friends and had another great time.

Then Monday was my interviews. I had three interviews: one in park slope, brooklyn, one in chelsea, manhattan, and one on E. 80th in manhattan.

Park Slope, Brooklyn: Whoever scheduled my appointment forgot to write it down in the book and they forgot about me. for this they get demerits. the doctor came in to interview me anyway so that was nice. However, before the interview they made me fill out an application even though they already had my resume and cover letter. More demerits for them. Then the doctors tells me how much he's willing to pay me and it's less than what i'm getting paid in the woods of Massachusetts. even more demerits. Then he tells me his policy on sedation, which is too liberal for my tastes. DEMERITS!

Chelsea: This hospital rocks. They do a combination of Eastern and Western medicince and the head veterinarian is also an acupuncurist! woot! Instead of vaccinating yearly, they monitor the animal's antibodies and only vaccinate when these antibodies are low. woot! The sell two kinds of the raw diet. woot! They have a part time veterinarian who only prcatices holistic and homeopathic medicine. woot! they only use sedation when it will be beneficial to the animal. woot! in the past two years, i think, three of their technicians have gone on to good veterinary schools. woot! woot! They seem like a friendly place that's filled with intelligent and nice people.

They want to try me out so I will be returning in May to do a walk through with them. I hope they still like me after that.

E. 80th: This was an emergency clinic and it didn't seem like a bad place but it did seem too big for me. Also, none of their technicians go on to veterinary school and they are in the process of moving. I also saw an unattended cat in the x-ray room who was muzzled, tied to the table in a stretched out position, and knocked the fuck out. No one thought it was strange that the cat was unattended in that condition and i have major issues with over sedating animals espcially when they're not going to be monitored.

Then I went out to lunch with family, changed out of my interview clothes and caught the chinatown bus home. All in all it was a good weekend. smile

VERY happy to hear about the Chelsea hospital! Sounds like a potentially good fit! Keep us informed of how the walk-through goes in May!
