I saw Vol. 1 on DVD last Friday, then saw Vol. 2 on Saturday. So, for me, the experience was pretty unbroken.
I dug both, but found Vol. 2 to be -- as folks have said -- so much more character-driven. I liked both films a lot, but I felt Q was trying to wow us with technique in the first. So, some of its gimmickry got a little tiresome for some people (though, I dug it all). Vol. 2 was the bomb. The characters were memorable. Bill's "father" had me in stitches with his jokes one second, and recoiling in horror the next. Q's pretentious writing seemed to work this time, too. (Bill's Superman ramble, for example, was obviously self-aware -- to the point that a woman a few rows behind me complained LOUDLY -- but it worked).

KBv2 really clicked for me with the character-driven development. I think that, in some ways, it was his plan all along to throw all the technique at us first time around, and then deliver a "softer" film for the second half. Definitely had quite an impact this way, rather than giving us more of the same. A sequel should build upon what was established in the previous film, rather than just rehash. Too many sequels are just like cheap remakes of the first film. Just watched the Japanese version of Volume 1 (which is uncut and supposedly exclusive to Japan) and it was pretty cool...
The big showdown at the end in full colour not that Black & White crap and you get to see what happens to Sofie's other arm instead of just hearing her pant a bit in the theatre version... Nice... Neversin. O(+>NIИ<+)O

I LOVE that whole Superman speech!!! In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |

it was a good film.....but way too long.....i actually fell asleep during the whole flashback scene.....
i understand the reason why quentin went for the ending..a mindfuck versus a physical fight... but theres something in the back of my nugget that would have prefered a killer kick arse fight... Space for sale...

Space for sale... | |

I shied away from Vol 1, cut I'm kind of an extreme-violence phobe, but I finally rented it, and I gotta say...pretty damn brillant stuff, and the violence wasn't nearly as disturbing as, say, Die Hard 2, which was just pure, vile popcorn violence. QT does have that vision thing, where he sees the tragedy and the comedy and the beauty in it all. The only thing that would have made it better: Lucy Lawless instead of Uma. She's just not that great to me. But I'm pretty psyched to see part 2, definitely.

Lucy is a man....It wouldnt have worked..Not with the whole "bride" thang..not to mention other important factors in the plot... actually, for me...the main reason why i recommend and enjoyed this film; the chemistry between uma and david carradine..if these two kats dont get oscar nods, well.....im shooting oprah!! oprah...uma....uma..oprah... Neversin. Wow! What happens to her other arm???? Nothing spectacular or anything you just SEE it get chopped off when she's in the trunk of the car instead of her faceshot with Bill that leaves you guessing IF it gets chopped off like in the theatre version... And the big fight with the "Crazy 88", that's in B&W in the theatre version but on the Japanese DVD in full colour and a couple of seconds longer, has been edited a little differently with some added footage... And that Klingon proverb at the start of the movie has been replaced by a "dedicated to..." text... Neversin. O(+>NIИ<+)O

whats envy? Ben Stiller and Jack Black star as Tim and Nick, best friends, neighbors and co-workers, whose equal footing is suddenly tripped up when one of Nick's harebrained get-rich-quick schemes actually succeeds: Vapoorizer, a spray that literally makes dog poop, or any other kind for that matter, evaporate into thin air -- to where exactly is anyone's guess. Tim, who had scoffed at Nick's idea and passed on an opportunity to get in on the deal, can only watch as Nick's fortune -- and Tim's own envy -- grow to equally outrageous proportions. When the flames of jealousy are fanned by an oddball drifter (Christopher Walken) who imposes himself into the situation, Tim's life careens wildly out of control ... taking Nick's with it. Hmmm... I guess I won't be seeing Envy, so Kill Bill 2 it is. Envy was supposed to be out yesterday... it isn't listed as showing. . [This message was edited Sat Apr 24 9:10:52 2004 by AzureStarr]

Have to say that I loved Volume 2.
Very different to Volume 1, and both were great in different ways. Which reminds me, I watched Volume 1 again just before seeing Volume 2, and I noticed that there's an Ice Cream van that drives past when the Bride pulls up outside Vernita Green's house. Now if you've read the original script you'll know the significance of this... but as far as I was aware the "Yuki's Revenge" chapter had been scrapped prior to filming, and the character of Yuki had been dropped completely from the movie, with all her remaining scenes being attributed to Go-Go. But if this is the case, then why the Ice Cream van?

I agree. I'm serious when I say that I'm struggling to think of a film that I've enjoyed more. It was THAT good!! Tarrantino is the master as far as I'm concerned. He makes real FILMS. Fuck I loved this masterpiece. p.s doesnt Tarrrantino have the best "bit" actors. How fucking good is that little twerp that helped Bud dig the grave or the Mexican pimp father figure dude. Pure movie frickin magic!!! When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.
