Dogville American Release This Weekend

If you happen to live in NY or LA I would like to recommend seeing Dogville...

http://www.dogvillemovie.com/
Like Breaking the Wave and Dancer In The Dark before it...this is a story of the the power and importance of *woman*.... this is the "true" conclusion to Lars von Triers "angel" trilogy..(prior to his ego taking over and deciding that wave, the idiots and dancer were a trilogy and dogville would be the launch of a new trio)....and i happen to think this is the strongest display of the power of woman..while the previous movies displayed how love, conviction and hope can lead one to make ill conceived decisions that can be concieved as weak, this movie makes up for it.....woman truly are the strongest of the sexes....and yet it reinforces the individual decisions made by the other two lead woman....

I have never had an appreciation for Nicole Kidman, sans The Others..but what Lars and she pulls off in this film is groundbreaking.....the exclusion of sets and props force you to concentrate on character...and while you find yourself bored by whats going on you also become familiar with the people depicted...its this level of comfort that betrays you as incidents of horror unfold.....people that you grow fond of soon betray your trust....and a very unlikeable and distrusted lead becomes the catalyst for your own revenge....and when you find yourself leaping in pleasure, its a sick beast like reflex that is soon followed by questions of morality...

and lars pulls it all off with a wink...

i have to admit my own biases here..I happen to have been one of the few that experienced "Dancer In The Dark" in a theater..I saw a huge man brought to tears in front of me...i witnessed a girl having to be carried out of the theater.....i endured a woman violently weeping while watching the final act unfold..and while i too wept, i new i was being manipulated by a master of artistry .....Lars von Trier is the Hitchcock of our time...Relentless in his perverse desire to torcher his audience....

check out the trailer on the official site for Dogville...The score is reason enough to visit..beautiful and haunting...mysterious about its motives....Just like the film itself...Much has been debated about the political and anti-american stance of the film...i dont see it that way.....for me, i see it as a study of the human condition...and how we all are simply animals in fine cloth.....

this movie posses more question and answers then "the passion" even bothers to attempt...See it!! Sure its cinema manipulation..the lack of pandering to its audience is proof of its worthiness...

I thought The Dancer in the Dark was pretentious, boring, and it really didn't do much for me. Dogville, however, is a whole different story. I'm somewhat amazed this is only coming out in US cinema's now, i saw it like almost a year ago i think, usually it's the other way around. Anyway, very strong movie, amazing acting all around. I guess it's not for mainstream or hollywood tastes, you have to approach it like you would go to a pretty difficult and sometimes slow theatre play. But boy does it pay of. One of the best films of last year, easily.

Well, i felt no connection whatsoever with the Björk karakter, so i guess that had something to do with it.

its the story of a love for child..more so then anything else in the world...

thats how manipulative lars can be..he expects people to either relate or appreciate maternal extints...that a woman will die for her child....he bases his entire script on that bias...unflenching
