Legendary soprano Julie Andrews will sing in new movie The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement - the first time since a throat operation in 1997 silenced her. The Sound Of Music star, who once boasted a four-octave vocal range, was forced to quit her role in Broadway show Victor/Victoria in the mid 1990s when she began having voice trouble. She underwent surgery to remove non-cancerous nodules, but was left without her singing voice. Andrews, 68, has since sung briefly on TV specials in America - but she stunned cast and crew on the new film, by almost recapturing her full voice, to perform a rendition of song "Your Crowning Glory." The film's musical supervisor Dawn Soler says, "She's everything you want Julie Andrews to be - she's such a professional. She nailed the song on the first take. I looked around and I saw grips with tears in their eyes." The original 2001 Princess Diaries starred Anne Hathaway as a schoolgirl who inherits the throne of a small European country and is trained to be a princess by her grandmother (Andrews).

That is phenomenal.

That's awesome...Julie Andrews is the consummate sweetheart. Some of her movies might be a little sickly sweet for my tastes, but how can ya not love her?

The Sound Of Music is one of my all time fave musicals!!

Actually, before I got married and all my family lived lived in Dorking, Surrey, in the UK, my mother was freinds with a woman who was from Austria who knew Maria Von Trapp, the nun who Julie Andrews portryed in the movie, personally!!

I was lucky enough to see the first performance of Victor/Victoria. They did a week of "sneak preview" shows in Mpls before it opened on Broadway. She was absolutely stunning!
