Now, I am student teaching... and just today my 2nd grade students began 3rd grade Excel Math, they were so hyped.
 I clearly can see... that a positive attitude and a new way of teaching (with enthusiasm) is vital and can go a long way. Math has to be instilled positively at a very young age... and taught in a manner in which Math is felt/believed to be fun.  As I taught the lesson today... I kept thinking to myself as the children were so excited to do Math... "Where was the fun when I was young, I don't remember a damn thing, only...  ."
There are studies being done that seem to indicate that learning to play a musical instrument can increase a child's aptitude in mathematics. I hate math and science in school. I loved everything else. Me and math do not see eye to eye.

Basic math was always my best subject but when you start gettin into algebra and beyond I just cant hang. He calls me "Holi" cuz he says everyday w/ me is like a Holiday... | |
