21 Grams...How much does life weigh?

Yesterday i went to see "21 Grams" and boy oh boy what a tour the force of a movie that packs such an emotional wallop that it became a real roller coaster for me to sit through. Sean Pean ( I think Sean Penn should of won an Oscar for this film, as his performance is much better than in Mystic River.), Naomi Watts, and Benicio Del Toro all give great and haunting performances, and Director Alejandro González Iñárritu makes the movie in such away that for the viewer to full grasps the whole story in non liner way in order to get the full effect of the tragedies in these peoples lives, and to experience the pain and sobriety of the human sprit. A major problem with '21 Grams', however, is the following...it tries to hard to turn things up a notch by drawing influence from another film, 'Pulp Fiction'. Not in tone or content but in style. 'Pulp Fiction' strung stories together by showing us a lot of stuff out of sequence and '21 Grams' tries the same thing but rather than having long stretches of film and scenery, '21 Grams' shows you a sequence for as little as a few seconds to about a minute or a few minutes tops and then jumps either back or fourth to another part of the story. This was very confusing and took away a lot of the dramatic effect. Just as I was about to be truly moved in many places, the film cut away. Too much of the old 'back and forth' .....This movie is plain and simply moving, it's like surviving a heavyweight fight on your soul.....

I agree with your review 100% Pusherman! Penn should have been nominated, and won, for this performance. It was soooo much better than his turn in "Mystic River" (plus, I thought it was a better film. MR was good, but overrated IMHO).

21 Grams is amazing! I made a topic on this when it first came out, and nobody really replied, so I'm happy that you guys got to see it. I loved it, and it was so much better than Mystic River, which had so many flaws and is so overrated that I'd have to make a whole other topic on that. Sean Penn was awesome in both, but he deserved a nomination and win for 21 Grams.

Also, I think Naomi and Benicio should really have won for supporting, as well.

I saw a preview of it (courtesy of Popbitch.com) I was totally blown away. I turned to my friend halfway through and said "this is one tough movie!". Excellent film, great performances all round.I felt sorry for every character in it. it was extremely harrowing and hard to watch in places, it kind of left me a bit drained to be honest and in need of a good comedy or something.

Loved the movie. I have to say I was more moved by Penn in Mystic River than in this - Naomi Watts & Benicio were the real standouts for me in this one...
