'We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful'

Morrisey 1ce sung that 'We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful'. But is this really the case? Its always easy to say that we're happy for them and I could never be envious. But is that always the case? Would you be more envious with regards 1 thing or the other?

I am not envious of anyone or anything much less my frineds and what they have..what they acquire just means I get to use it...like one friends sauna for example etc...woot!

what's there's is mine and what's mine is theirs

I dont understand how folks can be envious of anything--if they want what someone elses got then all u have to do is get it for themselves etc etc...

Same as me really. I dont think there's anything to gain from being envious.

if i had a friend who made it big i would be very happy for them and i give them a lot of encouragement to keep going . i would not hate them or put them down , if i would do something like that ,that means i was never there friend from the begining.and that would make me a phony .

Good question, JD. I definitely strive to not be envious, but I'm not perfect about it. Overall, though, I think I do a good job of not being envious -- much better now than in years past. Now, it's less likely for me to encounter that emotion. When I do, I acknowledge it, and let it go. I love it when my friends become successful.

lol Here starstarstarstarstar

confuse Can you change your star for gift-coupons or something?

Back on theme:

I don't believe people have been very honest here.
Let's change the question a little

Either you or your best friend shall become rich and famous. Only one of you. The other will always be a complete failure but you will remain friends.

Sincerely, who do you choose to be?

That's a completely different question. Not being rich and famous doesn't make a person a complete failure.

People are envious of anyone who is successful if they are not successful. Just look at the current trend in bashing "the rich" all the time. It's so common and the only explaination I can come up with is envy.

Depends on how the rich got rich and how they treat others.
Only rich catching hell right now are the ones involed in some sort of illegal scandal. Most people don't care what the next person has. The rich have always had the means to hide their faults. In this generation for the first time, they are being exposed like the poor always have.

I'd love for all my friends to become successful. It's if they forget about me that I'd have ill will towards them.

yes, but all too often simple selfishness is revered as a character flaw.

shit, im out to get mine right now. when i become rich i will give what i want, when i want. some people like to bash people with feelings like mine. once again, the only explaination i can see is envy.

and yes, corruption taints the whole system. but it's a shame when people who earned their riches get looped into that group. i feel far more people earned their riches and rightfully deserve them.

Whats yours is yours and if you honestly earned it, i wish them 100% happiness No matter what you do with it. If you ripped somebody off to get it or to maintain it, i wish nothing but the worst for you.

Many of my friends ARE very successful. I wouldn't have friends if I hated them for it.

However, I think the definition of success is highly sunjective.

No, I dont get jealous or envious at all. If they have succeeded all by themselves I couldnt be happier for them.
