Pier 1 Comes Out of the Closet

I work at Pier 1 Imports as a stockroom manager and I just heard today that Thom from "Queer Eye For the Straight Guy" is our new spokesperson!!

This is AWESOME and is CERTAIN to be better than those lame commercials with Kirstie Alley.

Look for the commercials to begin airing in March.

Oh, and if you live in the Detroit area, come by the Pier 1 in Dearborn (22501 Michigan) and say 'Hi.' Ask for Jason.

ugh.

i'd rather see Kirstie Alley singing "Santa Baby" than one of those Queer Eye douches for the 10,000th time this year.

Sorry, junior, but speaking as someone who works for Pier 1...we were EMBARRASSED about those Kirstie Alley commercials.

Plus, this new ad campaign in gonna drive sales waaay up (and considering the soft Christmas we're having...we need it!)

what makes you think that? those Queer Eye guys don't get great ratings. the only reason anyone knows who they are is because they've forced themselves down our throats for the last 6 months. they aren't that big a draw... hell, Paris Hilton is a more credible celebrity draw than these guys.

Aaron, what's your problem with the Fab 5? I think they are funny and great and got popular all on their own. Yay for Thom. And ditto, those Kirstie alley commercials bite.

At least the Kirstie commercials gave me something to laugh at. I'll just wind up rolling my eyes at the Queer Eye guy...though I guess it's appropriate that Pier One should find a spokesperson as cheap, fake, and replaceable as its products.

yeah, the Kirstie Alley commercials do suck.

but my problem with the "Fab 5" is that they're getting famous playing up to or being homo cliches. that AND they're on a reality makeover show, which i find to be one of the more abominable types of reality tv.

It's funny, as soon as I saw this show I thought that many gays would absolutely hate the way that they are potrayed by the "characters" on the show.
When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

well, they are who they are, and some real people do come off as very stereotypical. i don't have much problem with that, but i think it's the obnoxiousness of just a couple of the Queer Eye guys that drives me up the wall. never ever has an opportunity for a gay joke gone by without being capitilized on on the show, and many of them are pretty contrived. gay humor's great, but these guys are pretty lame at it.

They are a snippet of the gay population. Theres no way that show could represent the entire spectrum of gay personalities and intrests.

You wanna come with us to my grandma's trailer in the middle of the woods in southern Indiana and try to tell her that? Her only exposure to the world is what she sees on her satellite dish, and over the past few months her perception of me is apparently that of some fabusaurus in Kenneth Cole mules with a flair for design.

Television (mis)informs people who don't have any other outlet to a given subject or section of society. I happen to be one of those folks who bristles at the thought that this show can (and does) misrepresent me, based on just one part of my identity, to people who haven't even met me yet. It bugs. Sorry.
