Returning and Reciepts

OK I stumbled upon an unwrapped present from my dad. It's the "Bread Bible"- all about recipes, how bread works, history. I think this may well be the most useless and depressing gift I've ever gotten.
How about a book about vegetarian nutrition? He knows I don't have one of those. Or chocolates? That would be a lot of fun to work with and look at and he knows I looove chocolate.
He probably won't give me the reciept and I thought if I could find it I could take it and not have to hurt his feelings by asking for it. No dice.
I've never felt the need to return something before. How do people return gifts? Do people tend to give reciepts with them? Would someone probably be offended if the subject were delicately broached?

sigh

I'd wait 12 months and give it to him straight back!

Tell him how much you loved it and thought he'd enjoy the pleasures of bread too.

Then, spend the money you saved on his present, and get smashed.

Hope this helps! biggrin

I know some people Do give reciepts with gifts because they understand that people Don't always like gifts and they want their loved ones to have something they like. But is that always the case in returns?

I dunno what's worse. The gift-giver who doesn't know you after a lot of years, or the gift itself smile

That said, I would be interested in that book. I'm a geek that way. toast

Well I'm just gonna deal with it. He also gave me an antique bread bowl over 100 years old. Turns out he knew other family was giving me two books about vegetarianism so that's why he didn't go that way. Not so bad in this light smile

Happy Holidays everyone!!! biggrin

the so-called "bread bible" failed its first test. i wanted to know how to clean a bread bowl or wood cutting board and there was no info except where to buy rolling pins. i can't use soap because some will stay in the pores and the dough will soak it up and taste like soap. i would imagine you have to be careful with water because if that gets into the pores it'll breed bacteria. and this thing is an antique, i don't want to mess it up! i'm swiping it with vinegar soaked paper towels. seems to work. *cross your fingers*
i'm not complaining don't get me wrong. i just find it ironic. and does anyone know how one is supposed to clean porous wood that is going to be in contact with food?

Say if I buy something for someone and I'm not sure it'll fit, I ask the cashier for a "gift receipt." I keep the actual receipt and the recipient of my present will get the gift receipt. It doesn't give the amount but it's barcoded so I guess when/if it's returned, exchanging it won't be a problem.
