I agree. And she wasn't supposed to be the typical Hollywood "sexpot" type in this movie anyway. It's set in the 20s. Her exact look: the very skinny, pale and flat-chested type was in vogue back then. The standard of beauty was much different back then. I thought she fit very well in that role because of how she looks. As for how she looks in other movies, well I don't really have a problem with it and I actually find it refreshing that she doesn't look like every other actress you see.
