Are you vegetarian, and if so, is she making something for you? Maybe you could tell her you'll bring your Tofurky and then bring extra as your gift for everyone else to try a little.

that sounds rude, i think...

Even though I'm vegetarian, there's always more than enough food to go around. My friend and his family aren't and they don't like tofu but it's never been an issue. I get full on the other dishes like collard greens, sweet potato pie, corn bread, biscuits, mashed potatoes, banana pudding (which I'll be brave enought to try this year hopefully pray), buttered corn on the cob, and different varieties of Kool Aid... smile There's so much food my friend and I eat in shifts with fifteen minute breaks in between. Ahh sweet sweet gluttony. touched

That's what I always do. smile
Does the banana pudding have Nilla Wafers in? That is sooo good. Does have egg yolks though.

Yes it does. Nilla Wafers throughout the thing. Is it really good? I don't mind the egg yolks. I've been vegetarian for so long, I've eased back a little. I don't mind.

I think it's great nod Very pudding-y, mild banana taste depending on whether they use banana or vanilla pudding. But I love it either way. But everyone's taste is different, you'll just have to try! smile

ask.

if you will bring wine, for turkey i say white wine. a nice Pinot Grigio would be good. If you have a Cost Plus World Market around you, that is a great place (i.e. cheap) to buy wine and they have my favorite Bodega Norton Pinot Grigio. If you are not sure about the wine, go to a liquor store and ask the people there. They are usually helpful.

or you could think about brining a pie.

i still say ask though and bring something like a candle or whatever if they say "no, you dont have to bring anything".

Bringing a side dish is not wrong unless you say something like "here ya go I brought this also just in case I dont like how ya cook".

But I do think with a big meal you should ask or tell the host first, because they're making as much as is necessary to feed everyone, and probably erring on the side of too much. So the host should know if there is going to be even more leftovers to take care of.
It's not offensive though.

I've decided that I'd like to bring a bottle of white wine to dinner. But you're right, I'll ask first to see if it's okay.

Pinot Noir was strongly suggested with turkey on a cooking show today.

You can never go wrong with some good ol' fashioned Puerto Rican rum.

That way if the turkey sucks...you'll be too drunk to notice.

I tried some of that Tofurky last year barf. It had to be the most disgusting thing I have ever tasted. I am usually pretty open when it comes to trying new food...and I do like a lot of vegitarian dishes...but man that tofurky was positively horrible. Just my tastebuds opinion, of course.
