SAN DIEGO FIRES- Update: New Map of Fire

This is scary. I feel like I'm surronded by fires.

Yesterday all the freeways were closed, except for the 5 which runs along the coast. I'd have to go to Mexico if the Santa Anta winds blow the fires Southwest. I spoke with Chico yesterday he's ok as far as I know. The Fire is just north of him and I am a little further south. I'm pretty sure the fire by the border is gonna be contained and not move west, but you never know. They are lighting back-fires to keep the embers from igniting the dry brush all around. We haven't had rain in 175 days.

Outside, it smells like the worlds biggest BBQ and the sky is smoky. The sunlight gives everything a yellow glow. It looked like sunset the whole day yesterday.

Thank u. rose

All the schools are closed today. Everyone is being advised to stay indoors with the windows and doors shut. We are being asked to use as little water and electricity as possible.

The mail isn't being delivered. The trash isn't being picked up.

We JUST MOVED to a new apartment on Saturday. We moved from the coast, inland, towards the fire that started that evening. I'm finding it hard to concentrate at work.

Be safe Vina!

P.S. back-up your files and put them in a fire-proof box.

Hopefully we will get a lot more help today to get these fires contained and put out. Yesterday there just weren't enough fire fighters to get to each branch of the fire.

Thanks everyone. It sounds like the fires are getting close to being contained better today. The santa anta winds aren't as strong as predicted. Sounds like the fires are dying out closer to the cities.

I still feel sick to my stomach though. I'd rather be home watching the news.

It's been crazy up here in Los Angeles too...it's raining ashes, the air sucks, the sky is a yellowish-grey (if you could imagine)...and the news just stated that more than 1,100 homes have been destroyed...(it was 800 just 4 hours ago)...from Simi Valley (north of LA) all the way down to San Diego...So.Cal is burning up...

I woke up Saturday morning with my bathroom (where I keep a window open) covered with ashes. You can smell wood burning...everytime I smell it I think "I'm smelling someone's house burn to the ground"

It's quite frightening just watching the images on television of these raging fires just burning out of control...

Simi Valley seems to be the worst one at this time. I have to go to San Diego tomorrow and I hear that the air is even worse down there...

My prayers go out to all those directly affected by these raging firestorms!

Peace
Every minute of last night is on my face today....

It smells bad. People are walking around with face masks.

Hopefully by tomorow the fires will be well under control around here. Have a safe trip!

Thanks!

I bought some surgical masks...my allergies are killing me right now!

I have to be down in Mission Valley...I hope the 5 is not in any danger around the San Clemente/Oceanside/Camp Pendleton area...it's a very narrow area and there is a fire down there...

Escondido was just evacuated! I just saw on the news..

My boyfriend works in Mission Valley. They just let him go home early. Yesterday I heard that surgical masks were sold out. We've been using wet bandanas. Yesterday the 5 was the only major freeway that wasn't closed down, so I think you should be ok.

These fires are awful. This is the worst I have ever seen it. I'm in central Orange County and the smoke and ash there is unbelievable. We are flanked by fires to the north, the east and the south. I had to get a hotel room near LAX because I couldn't breath where I'm living. When you walk out of the house, it reminds you of fog in the way that you can see the mist floating by. But instead of mist, it's a film of ash and smoke. You cannot believe how awful it is.

I pray that these fires are put out soon. I also hope that anybody who intentionally started these fires got caught up in them. I wish the worst on people like that.

hug I'm glad you got to a better location so you could breathe easier. It's not as bad where we are. We just have all the windows and doors shut. If we open them the smell comes in right away.

Our fires were started by a lost hunter.

a hunter who set a weekend signal fire is being blamed for the 150,000-acre wildland Cedar blaze that has damaged or destroyed hundreds of structures and caused numerous deaths, the sheriff said today.

"The fire was started by a hunter, one of two people who (were) hunting in that area. He set a fire in order to locate his partner.

Because of the santa anta winds and the lack of fire-fighting resources that were in other parts of the state, this fire got really bad, really fast.

Mission Valley is just northwest of where the I-8 and I-805 meet. Did you stay in LA?
