Mid Life Crisis???

Is it possible to go through a mid-life crisis at the young age of 40? In my 40th year of life, it sure feels like I am going through one. Your thoughts and input would be greatly appreciated. biggrin
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

i hear ya girl...i think we just get a lot more 'picky' in our age...nod

however...at the age of 33...i am a bit concerned about the possible need for an up comming hystorectomy (better learn to spell it first lol) my body is changing in its age...and i am feeling things are out of whack. sad

the women in my family have all had this done at an early age...and the thought of that is very scary to me...

so...anyway...just letting you know...life bites ass after 30

I read a very interesting article on 3rd life crises geek. Apparently the younger generations are reaching their “mid” life crisis much earlier than they used to. Could be that you have this?

Just to offer a bit of comfort and optimism towards justkelley - due to medical reasons I had to have a total hysterectomy (meaning it alll went) at age 32 (a couple mos. before my 33rd birthday).

A hysterectomy certainly isn't something fun or a decision to be taken lightly, HOWEVER...

in *my* case, it was the BEST thing that could have happened to me. I had a wonderful, kind doctor who made such an experience as easy as could be, and since the surgery I have none of the problems I had prior. Having a hysterectomy has been a blessing for me.

And the "no sex drive" thing is a *total, complete MYTH*. Yes, you can/will have hormonal changes depending on the extent of your particular surgery but basically all of those can be helped by various medications, and some women (like me) have no real problems afterwards at all to speak of.

Sorry to butt in on the thread like this but I know how afraid I was before my surgery, and in fact I put it off for almost 3 years due to my fears of what would happen to me afterwards...I'd read all the horror stories and myths and they'd scared me to death, let alone the thought of just having any sort of operation.

justkelley - I hope for you that *whateve* needs to be done to make you the healthiest, happiest person you can be, will be done smoothly and that in the end you will feel better. Just please know that if it turns out that you do need to have a hysterectomy, it's NOT the end of your sex life, your sex drive, or your life as a woman. For many MANY women, it is a new beginning of a healthier, painfree life filled with even *better* sex than before the hyst.

A site you many find helpful and informative is http://www.hystersisters.com. I started visiting that site and reading the message boards before my surgery and it was a wealth of info for me and helped a lot.

Okay I'll shut up now. smile

That was a really interesting post to read SnowQueen - thank you.

I would actually like a hysterectomy. I'm 37 and don't want children. But it seems a little extreme. I just hate periods, that's all ... I kinda wish I could have it all taken out at times.

And Psycho eek ... I always assumed you were in your 20's or early 30's from the pics I've seen of you ... no need to have a mid-life crisis girl - you're looking great!

I expect to live to be 100 so mid-life for me will be 50! biggrin Seriously, I hear ya! I went for a follow-up visit with an endochronologist figuring my funk is related to something hormonal. But, it isn't.

I need a life coach. sad

Yes, a mid-life crisis can happen in your 40s, although for most men it hits between 45 and 55.

My girlfriend's uncle is going through his right now. For years he was scared of commitment and all of a sudden WHAM! He confesses to his sister that he's scared of dying alone, wants kids and wants someone--get this--"to take care of me when I'm old."

So now he's engaged to a total GOLDIGGER who NOBODY and I mean NOBODY in his family likes or trusts...because she is so obviously using him for his money.

Plus, my father went through a mid-life crisis a few years ago and destroyed my family (not that it was really intact before).

To avoid a mid-life crisis, I recommend being as BAD AS YOU WANNA BE when you're young. Get it outcha system...
