DOGVILLE - Part 1 of Lars Von Trier's Trilogy

This film has me really intruiged. It looks like it will become one of Nicole Kidman's most reknowned parts, it's the first installment of a trilogy, it's going 2 raise more than a few raised eyebrows upon release, Udo Kier is in it (had the honour of my brother and I spending 24hours with him a couple of months ago on a break from filming this, and He's charming and insane all at the same time - wonderfully eccentric!), and apart from VERY basic studio sets, people are split as 2 whether backgrounds and will be CGI'd in during post-production (see the website 2 see what I mean), or if the intention is 2 give it a brutally stark 'stage' feel. Whatever happens - it will be totally unlike anything we have seen before by the looks of things - certainly not what we are accustomed 2.
Von Trier seems 2 be pushing the envelope in any way he can with this story...

Im hooked already. AnX - what u think buddy?

SHORT SYNOPSIS

The beautiful fugitive, Grace (Nicole Kidman), arrives in the isolated township of Dogville on the run from a team of gangsters. With some encouragement from Tom (Paul Bettany), the self-appointed town spokesman, the little community agrees to hide her and in return, Grace agrees to work for them. However, when a search sets in, the people of Dogville demand a better deal in exchange for the risk of harbouring poor Grace and she learns the hard way that in this town, goodness is relative. But Grace has a secret and it is a dangerous one. Dogville may regret it ever began to bare its teeth...

Anxiety

I have a LOT of patience for Lars Von Trier, and it always seems to pay off. He has a way of manipulating emotions that I think is brilliant, though some people I know find it unbearably offensive. One friend of mine actually excused herself during "Dancer in the Dark" to go throw up! Love him or hate him, I think he's a strong filmmaker and definitely a visionary, whether you like his vision or not. If anyone can make this hyper-Brechtian idea work, I'd wager that it would be Von Trier. And I'm liking Kidman more and more with each movie she does - I can't wait to see how ol' Lars puts the poor lamb through the ringer with this one...

Definately. Nicole Kidman has gone from strength 2 strength with every film she has done since 'Eyes Wide Shut' - I dont quite know what happened with regards Stanley Kubrick's vision 4 that, (1st half was great and intruiging - second half was uninspired) but Im sure it was that very experience that changed something in her.

Can't wait 2 see Udo in this, the guy is really underrated (loved Him in 'Shadow of The Vampire' - Eddie Izzard was a revelation too! GREAT film - check it out AnX)

Here's his bio:

Udo Kier (The Man in the Coat)

Acclaimed German actor Udo Kier began his career at the age of eighteen, appearing in THE ROAD TO SAINT TROPEZ directed by Mike Sarne, and went on to appear in MARK OF THE DEVIL and Andy Warhol’s cult classics FLESH FOR FRANKENSTEIN and BLOOD FOR DRACULA. Udo Kier has collaborated with director Lars von Trier on numerous films, including EUROPA/ZENTROPA, BREAKING THE WAVES, THE KINGDOM and DANCER IN THE DARK. Kier has collaborated with many other acclaimed directors including Dario Argento, Wim Wenders, Gus van Sant and Werner Herzog, to name a few.

and if all this wasn't enough - Jean-Marc Barr is in it too! drooling

Man, I love Nicole Kidman, and I love Lars Von Trier. Hell, I loved Barbwire - but I was really high.

Lars Von Trier needs to cast Pam Anderson in his next film. You know she was supposed to play Bjork's part in Dancer in the Dark, but the scene where she had to be hung reminded her too much of Tommy.
