Why Are People On Online Public Message Boards So Damn Mean and Bitchy??? I'm not just talking about Prince.org, I mean public message boards in general. I made the big mistake of posting an issue that I was having on the job on a supposed "Administrative Support Board". Support board my ass, some people's responses were just plain mean and cruel. I'm wondering why people find it necessary to act this way. I also wonder if they were to be with the person face to face if they would have the same guts to say to them what they post on the message board. I doubt it, I think some people are just too damn chicken, and because they know that because it is a message board and they don't know you personally, that they can just attack you cruelly and without caring. Sorry ya'll just had to vent.

I guess some people make an entire outlet out of their online persona for their repressed feelings. Funny thing is, I'm actually more polite and considerate online than I am in real life. I totally try to watch my step online, I guess because words in print seem more definitive and permanent to me. Unless I've been drinking.  Fear is the mind-killer. | |

Because it's easy to do. Because you can let off steam without having someone in front of you to whom you are accountable. Because you can turn off your computer when someone calls you out on your crappy behavior.
Who knows, hopefully the novelty will wear off eventually and people will use forums like this with a little more responsibility. | |
