OK.

I didn't know how things worked over there as I'm always here.

But you were "there" long enough to have accessed the message boards and read this, right?

One thing that comes to mind is their mantra on the U Tell Us section (which I'm assuming is the way this post found it's way onto the site):

“Disrespect, anger and ill-will can only destroy the vessel that contains it.”
These boards were designed with LOVE – 2 UNITE, not divide…..The goal is UNITY. Any posts deemed contrary 2 that goal will be deleted.

That's pretty good for someone who doesn't know how things work over "there." wink

Well I figured before I commented on it I should at least try to figure out how it does work. Hey at least I'm trying to be an educated consumer smile

highfive you get props for trying biggrin

It sounds like ol' boy just has sour grapes because the girl was having more fun dancing with the 'mos and didn't wanna respond to his advances.

It's pretty sad when you have such bad luck with the ladies that you gotta hate on gay boys. Kinda pathetic, actually.

For those of you offended by this guy's rant, you have two choices: 1) you can report the thread to NPGMC moderators, and if enough people complain about it and it's allowed to stay up, then we know that unity only goes so far and a little disorder is cool at our virtual clubhouse, or 2) you can ignore his rant and refuse to give it your time and energy.

OR, you can do both - let the moderators know you don't approve of the thread, then make like the Come album and LETITGO.

I was probably one of the dancing gay guys who pissed him off Sunday night, so I done did my part. lol

You're absolutely right in that it's up to the people offended to challenge the post, which is exactly what BananaCologne did by posting it here. I don't know if he said anything in the club's forum or not; I haven't been in there in months.

You can't have dialogues in the NPGMC because you never know if something in your post or someone else's will cause the whole thing to be deleted. It's very frustrating to be in the middle of a meaningful exchange when all of a sudden it simply vanishes. I think that's happened to many people, and so they learn to come to the org to discuss the more...scandalous issues.

Plus, hey - I wouldn't be able to read it if it was in the club. So thanks for posting it over here, Nana.

So NuPwrSoul, do you disagree with this member's post? Just curious what your take on it is.

It would seem to be, if your purpose is for people to understand how and why it is offensive, that you would post a response to the person's thread and make it clear for that person and anyone else who reads it.

Posting it here however, seems to be for the purpose of ridiculing the club and its members, which seems to have become an org past-time.

Y'know, it WOULD be awful nice if someone would post a classy yet firm response in the NPGMC forum. Wish I could help y'all out, but it ain't happenin'. wink

But when we danced, she kept getting taken by a mob of gay guys, and I mean that literally. They would squeeze in between us, like some were assigned to block me, while the others would move her to where they were. She was into it, so we all kept dancing. But by the end of the night she seemed to want them more than me, so I left in state in a state of confusion. Why would a straight woman looking for a straight man spend most of her time freaking gay men on the dance floor?

This bit made me laugh, because I've done exactly the same thing when I've been with some of my male gay friends biggrin

I'm not a member of the npgmc otherwise I'd go over there and tell the guy exactly why she was dancing with the other guys - THEY WERE MORE FUN!!! biggrin biggrin biggrin

I'd love to hear some thoughts from some of the other straight dudes who go to the club night at Berlin every month - I know a few who show up and I don't even think of us as "different", just as fellow fans who showed up to get down to our favorite music.

I mean, we're supposed to be championing our similarities and all, right?

Until this post, I've never felt any static from a soul, any of the times I've gone. I would venture a guess that this guy is in the minority with his complaint.

To be quite honest, I only skimmed the post at first and thought nothing of it.

Then I saw stymie's/cdaryl's response that basically said "I have something to say about this but I won't" which triggered in my mind that she found something objectionable, so then I re-read it more closely to see what the possible problems would be with the post.

(This is why I say if you want understanding, a possible option is to engage the post and respectfully point out the issues with which you are at variance. Otherwise, if you let it stand or if the moderators let it stand, then people who don't know or aren't familiar with or sensitive to certain issues will take those things for granted as being harmless.)

But here's my answer to your question BlueAngel, which I also posted on the thread at issue at the NPGMC:

Someone who is a long-time Prince fan who has gone to Prince concerts or Prince-related events should be used to being in the company of people from all walks of life, because Prince historically has attracted a very mixed crowd.

But I am not going to lie, I'm a long-time Prince fan and I live in New York City, which has some of the most visible and socially active gay communities in the country, and I still am uncomfortable if I am in a social setting that is predominantly gay.

That's just me being honest. I also recognize that my discomfort is my problem, not anyone else's and I do my best fight any sense of paranoia or irrationality and just have a good time with whomever I am with.

So while I can identify with the discomfort, I would never use the words that the writer of this post used. And I certainly would not invoke God to condemn or cast generalizations about others in expressing any discomfort, which is a personal problem.

I would ask why straight men are uncomfortable in a predominantly gay setting. Is it because of gay men's potential advances or actual advances? If so, perhaps straight men would benefit to keep in mind that women are sometimes uncomfortable with straight men for the very same reasons...

Yes because we know that in between rehearsing and packing up for a series of performances abroad, he has time to personally read every single post on a message board. rolleyes

I don't hold Prince directly responsible for every decision made by moderators over at the club, but I find it interesting that anything we write over there that even hints at challenging Prince gets deleted WITH THE QUICKNESS.

Perhaps intolerance of gay folks isn't quite so disharmonious or disunifying in their estimation, just as long as you aren't making fun of Prince's latest hairstyle in so doing.

I'm not sure why the whole NPGMC is blamed for a single post by a single member. If Prince didn't make the post, why are you thanking/blaming him?
Surely you wouldn't want THIS site to be judged entirely by some of the offensive things posted here? Do you think all the bullshit that is posted here is a fair representation of what Ben believes in? Do you think Ben has any idea half of what is posted here?
I've seen posts that are degrading to women, gays, blacks, christians, you name it, here. Is anybody complaining about those? A few people perhaps, and they are threatened with account deactivation for doing so.
Do you really think Prince is over there making sure no one insults anyone?
It seems people want to complain about the lack of 'free speech' until it's something they disagree with.
I disagree with the post as well, but it should be dealt with on the site it's posted at in my opinion and not over here.
Most people here claim they hate that place anyway, so why should it even matter to them?
