Can anyone recommend any good graphic novels? I'm currently in full swing in my comic renaissance and I'm pleased to find that there is a lot of good quality writing in comics again. I tend to go for the trade paperbacks nowadays as I don't have time to hunt down past issues in a store (ah the good ol' days)
Can any of you recommend your favorites? I was thinking about getting "Mr. Punch" and "Signal to Noise" by Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean . Also "WatchMen" and "Crisis on Infinite Earths" are definitely on my list as I've never read them *ducks head* May my fellow fanboys forgive me "I ordered no broth! Away with ye lest my cane find your backside!!"- Ralph Wiggum, Actor.

Other favourites include V for Vendetta, and all the great Batman ones like Arkham Asylum and Year One.
If you like 2000AD you could do worse than dig up stuff like Sláine the Horned God, Ballad of Halo Jones, Song of the Surfer, all the old Dredd stuff like Necropolis etc.

BTW I'm going through a similar nostalgia fest at the mo, I've recently re-purchased lots of graphics novels I had years ago.

Thanks for the recommendations Ian. I'd read Arkham Asylum and that's just one of the best Batman stories ever written. A classic. I'll also check out the others on your list as well. I'm a sucker for well written and well drawn graphic novels. "I ordered no broth! Away with ye lest my cane find your backside!!"- Ralph Wiggum, Actor.

"30 Days of Night"
If you can find it. Love's no fun when the one you love don't love you.

'The Dark Knight Returns' is essential too.

Slighty off-topic, but years ago I read a magazine article about a forthcoming comic based on a whole load of super-heroes when they were old. It looked quite interesting.
Unfortunately I was reading this in my local Indian takeaway, and they're very fast so I never finished the article. And I can't remember the name of the comic (or anything else! ) Can anyone shed any light on this? Was it ever produced, or was I drunk?

The Crow by James O'Barr is still one of the most powerful things I've ever read. All props to the dearly-departed Brandon Lee but the movie didn't pack near the emotional wallop this graphic novel did.
"Batman--The Dark Knight Strikes Again"--Amazing. I didn't think Frank Miller could surpass himself, but he did. And you get to see Superman and Wonder Woman fuck. "Preacher Vols 1-9"--possibly the best comic series ever written. Simply unbelievable.

Is it still being produced? Good picks. My list is getting bigger I did read Batman TDKSA. I liked it but The Dark Knight Returns is just so damn beautiful. It gets me everytime. Peter David's The Last Avengers Story (2-part book-shelf from '94 or '95, I forgot the actual title)? Or perhaps DC's Kingdom Come which ripped it off? FREE THE 29 MAY 1993 COME CONFIGURATION!

I am aware that for some strange reason that continues to escape me, Grant Morrison's Arkham Asylum is considered a classic, but I think it is overrated Certainly, I read my copy and gave it away afterwards with no hesitation. I thought it was crap. No, really. I did. FREE THE 29 MAY 1993 COME CONFIGURATION!

Very inspiring, too. I haven't read Marvel comics since the early '90s, but is it true that Wilson Fisk (the Kingpin) is now dead?

Indeed, that was a great one. I was a fan of the artwork, and the way the brought characters from the past in. Sign 78 that you're obsessed with Prince: You buy a John Prine album- just out of curiosity.
