exactly. that reminds me of some of my family members--they could care less about you unless there's some sorta benefit in it for them. it's a damn shame.

Supa did the dog have a collar on? Any clue if it was a pet or just wild?
I really really think there should be a law saying there is a heavy penalty if you allow a dog to get loose (not on a leash or within a fence or on a special dog beach, etc.) in a city. It's a hazard to people as well as to the animal. Maybe I will take up the cause. Anyone with me? Still the cat issue; they're not dangerous..then again if one darts out in front of you it can cause an accident.. being startled you swerve...but an argument against that could be "you shouldn't swerve". I wonder if I could make a difference as far as the dogs go though.. Very Motivated Anna

It really doesn't surprise me. There is disrespect for human life all over the world. There are some people who treat other humans this way, and worse. It's appalling, but unfortunately not surprising. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Pets, Dogs, give us their lives with dedication, silence, and love. That intersection should have come to a complete hault! Is this how we should treat our best friends?

Life is life. All life deserves respect.
I get upset at stories like these. I hate the way that humans think they have a divine right to the planet, and the way we aim to control things. I'm glad you stopped. I hope they found the dog - it breaks my heart to think that maybe they didn't. There are so many animals out there that aren't treated with respect though, that it doesn't surprise me that people walked right by.

I did see footage (on good morning america or something) a couple days ago where a dog had run into the street and cars all over the place were stopping in the highway.
And a while back there was footage of animal control picking up an alligator, they dragged it down the street tossing and turning from a rope tied to the back of the truck. Which is nothing new. But the thing is people were outraged and it made the national news. An alligator. It's getting better. And the next generation coming up is more compassionate, especially due to films like Finding Nemo and Chicken Run. Kids as young as 6 are telling parents they want to be vegetarian because they don't want to be part of hurting animals (which is another issue I won't go into). I do think we need to appeal to people's sense of selfishness to get anything accomplished. To make any progress as far as keeping pets safe in cities we (those who care about animals) ought to highlight the fact that they also threaten humans in terms of attacks and traffic accidents, etc. More people will become vegetarian when they realize the effect meat, especially red meat, has on their bodies. And we get way too much protein which leeches calcium from our bones. Buy stock in wheelchairs and walkers, wait a few years for the fast food lifestyle to take effect, reap the rewards. Remember the first moves toward abolishing slavery were because of economy, not the rights of other beings. Sad Anna

This story just makes me sick...but I know of a twist, a few years back a young boy was attacked by some dogs and was severely mauled. The owner of the dogs came and got them and hid them but he left the boy in the street because he thought he was dead. HE JUST LEFT THE BOY IN THE STREET!!
I agree with Kelley People can be ignorant fucks !!! A stray kitten was killed the other day, everyone in the neighborhood just drove by the kitty. On my way home I picked her up and put her in the ditch so the kids wouldn't come home and see a kitty in the road. It was awful I cried and almost was sick to my stomach but I did not want the kids to see that kitty in the road. We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color. Maya Angelou

I hit a bunny yesterday. I tried to avoid it, but trust me, it was mushed. I almost threw up. Consider this my confession, though I did not purposely do it. I am a hideous human being..that kitten in my avatar is not dead, however, just a kitty chow hangover...

it seems that nobody even thinks twice when they see a dead animal on the road - they often get run over hundreds of times, with nobody even concerned about it! can you imagine - being hit over and over and over again... and don't even get me started on people who PURPOSELY run over certain animals, such as snakes, etc. there must be a special place in hell for people like that! ok, now i'm officially pissed!!! ditto that. i prefer animals to humans, most days

One time I was walking home from work and I came to a freeway exit. As I was waiting for the light to turn, I heard the mewling of a baby kitten. I looked around and discovered that it was in the middle of the street between some concrete pilons and garbage cans. I waited until all the cars turned and I ran to the middle of the street and rescued it. I kept it and raised it.

Just wanted to turn the tide of this thread so it wasn't so sad... You're cute. Yeah, I'm a vet tech, and while lots of people really don't give a fuck, and do stupid things like let their pets wander around outside, there are just as many people who are totally devoted to their critters as members of the family. Not all people are heartless bastards. A significant percentage are, but not ALL.
