Last night I was talking with my next-door neighbor, who is also a friend, and she told me that she has liver cancer. She's 26-years-old and has been married a year with no kids. She's been to four doctors and all of them say that she is just going to die...I work for a medical school and I'm looking for another doctor for her. She told me that she doesn't like to tell people so that they won't look at her like a walking corpse...I held in my tears while talking with her for several hours and when I got into my house...I had to let it go...the tears came and still haven't stopped...I've spent part of the morning looking for a doctor that I hope can treat her.
This morning I got a call and found out that another one of my friend's boyfriends was killed in a car accident this morning.

I feel so bad for those I love...and I hope they heal soon...mind, body and spirit...

Andrea, U of M has a state-of-the-art Oncology department and has really helped a member of my family. I would refer her there. It's not just one doctor, it's the entire department.

I'm sorry.

I work a little in oncology and it seems very hard to believe that they would not treat an otherwise healthy 26 year old. Help her find another referral, keep her confidence up by being strong for her (the body, especially a young one, has a way of dealing with disease (even cancer) on it's own, let alone with a bit of chemotherapy. Good positive mental attitude (albeit difficult) can help immensely.

Sad news is always so hard to take, there are many people here who are now thinking of you, much love

She's gone to UM and the doc has literally blown her off for a month...(when she called a few days ago the nurse didn't even know what was going on) I've referred her to Karmanos Cancer Institute (it's affiliated with my work)...they have a whole unit dedicated to gastrointestinal cancer and specialize in one of the procedures she's been wanting to explore. I gave her the info yesterday and I hope she follows up on it.
